For a low-cost women's haircut in Toronto, Marca College is our first price check. Its supervised student salon lists a $22 haircut and a $35 cut and style. If you want a regular salon appointment, start by comparing Hair Tree's $55-plus wash, cut and style with N15's $64 entry stylist rate.
The main catch is that “a haircut” does not describe the same service everywhere. A dry trim, a long curly cut and a wash with a full blowout take different work. Ask for the price for your hair and your chosen stylist before anyone starts.
Our picks are based on published prices and service details, checked September 22, 2026. We have not personally tested each stylist. We rate the usefulness of the options for a budget, not the quality of every haircut they produce.

1. Marca College: our strongest starting point for a small budget

Where: 2902 Danforth Avenue, near Victoria Park.
Marca's guest menu lists $22 for a haircut and $35 for a cut and style. Students do the work under a licensed instructor's supervision. The college is cashless, so bring a suitable payment card.
The $13 difference matters if you want to leave with your hair fully styled. Ask what the basic cut includes. Don't assume it buys every part of the more expensive service.
Why choose it: a clear low price and supervised training. Why skip it: you have a tight schedule or want a difficult change completed quickly by one specific experienced stylist.
Allow extra time and explain your hair texture, length and desired cut when booking. Ask if an instructor can review the plan before cutting starts. A photo of the front and back is more useful than “just make it nice.”
Book this for a budget cut when your schedule is flexible. For a major change just before a wedding or job interview, give yourself time to settle into the result.

2. Hair Tree: compare the $55-plus complete haircut

Hair Tree lists a women's haircut with shampoo and style from $55. That makes it a useful comparison with a cheap cut that leaves the wash or finish out.
Its official location page lists 5492 Yonge Street near Finch, 2409 Yonge Street in Midtown and 29 Bellair Street in Yorkville. Choose the branch and stylist before relying on the starting price.
The good part: the menu says what the cut includes. The limit: the plus sign means $55 is a starting point. Your selected appointment can cost more.
Ask if long, thick or curly hair changes the price or booked time. If you have a short bob, explain whether you want the existing shape trimmed or a new shape built. Those are different requests even when both remove only a small amount of hair.
Choose Hair Tree if the final quote fits your budget and the stylist has examples similar to your hair. The lowest menu price is a starting point for that conversation, not a guarantee.

3. N15: useful if you choose the stylist tier carefully

N15's women's cut-and-style menu starts at $64 for Stylist I and II. The listed ladder rises through $74, $79, $84 and $89, with Hiroki at $110. Booking the first available person can therefore change the bill.
The salon lists hair locations at 831 Bay Street, 643 Bay Street and 4841 Yonge Street, Unit 103. Its Queen Street East location is presented as Lash & Beauty. Don't select a beauty location when you need a haircut.
The advantage: you can see how experience tiers affect price. The drawback: a familiar salon name does not mean one flat haircut fee.
Tell the receptionist your maximum budget before they choose an appointment. Confirm the price for your length and the finish you want. If a junior appointment is unavailable, decide whether to wait or use another salon rather than accepting a higher tier by accident.
Choose the $64 tier for a fair comparison with other entry salon prices. Pay more for a specific stylist's relevant work, not simply a grander title.

4. GBX Salon: choose Future Talent, not an unrelated Glassbox booking

GBX Salon offers Pro Team and Future Talent services. Future Talent appointments are done by students and apprentices with senior educator guidance. This is the discounted training route to compare.
The live student booking menu lists short and long haircuts from $22. The long-cut description includes shampoo, conditioner and a natural blow-dry, with educator supervision. A fringe trim starts at $5. Extra styling and extra time can change the final price.
Why choose it: a low, verified cut price with educator guidance. The drawback: the teaching process takes time, and extras change the bill. Don't book a trainee slot if you cannot stay for the checks.
Use the GBX Salon booking link, choose Student Services, then choose the cut. The student salon page lists 42 Gladstone Avenue. The academy FAQ contains conflicting address text, including 781 Queen Street East. Check the address on your booking confirmation or call 416-953-7098 before travelling.
Choose Future Talent for a supervised budget cut with time to spare. Ask the educator to review your plan before work starts.
5. Civello: the Young Talent rate is the useful budget option

Civello lists cuts from $65 in its Young Talent Salon, compared with $85 for Salon Life, $105 for Advanced, $120 for Master and $140 for Grand Master. The cut includes consultation, shampoo and a blowout.
Rosedale is at 887 Yonge Street. Uptown is at 2620 Yonge Street. Check which lower-tier appointments are available at your chosen salon.
The benefit: a defined package and published starting rates. The weakness for this guide: Civello is not a budget choice across the whole team. An advanced stylist's starting rate already exceeds a $100 haircut budget before extras.
Young Talent stylists have formal hair education but may not yet be licensed. That is different from Civello's fully licensed junior Salon Life tier. Ask which category you are booking, who checks the work and how long to allow.
Choose the Young Talent route if you want this setting at its lowest listed cut rate. Don't book an expensive tier hoping the receptionist will honour an older cheaper price.

6. LES Studio: strong service definitions and a pay-what-you-can lead

LES uses gender-neutral pricing. Its haircut categories explain the difference between short, medium, long, curly, creative and transformation work. All haircut services include a wash and style.
Its locations are 392 College Street and 827 College Street. Book according to your current hair length, unless selecting a transformation. A long-to-short change is not the same appointment as maintaining an existing short cut.
The advantage: useful clarity for bobs, curls, shags and major changes. The catch: special cuts need the right time slot. Don't book a cheaper basic service and expect a complex creative cut within it.
The site also says it offers pay-what-you-can haircuts once a month. The exact next date, spaces and eligibility were not confirmed in this check. Ask the studio before making a trip. It is not an all-day walk-in offer.
LES requires 24 hours' notice for cancellation or rescheduling, by phone or email. Late changes can cost the full service fee. Choose it for a clearly defined service and confirm your price in the booking menu.

7. Proudest Pony: useful for gender-neutral and quiet appointments

Proudest Pony is at 1267 Bloor Street West. It prices by the work involved, rather than gender. Its team page links each stylist's work and pricing.
The salon offers a silent appointment option at no extra charge. That means keeping conversation to what is needed for the service. It does not mean the haircut itself is free.
Why choose it: you can ask for less small talk and compare portfolios before booking. Why it is not our cheapest pick: the current cost depends on the selected stylist and service. An old quoted price for a short cut does not establish the price of your long cut.
Tell the salon about sensory needs, the finish you want and any help you need with access. Do not assume that a quiet appointment changes lighting, sound from other clients or the physical layout.
Choose the stylist whose work fits your hair, then check that person's quote. A useful portfolio is worth more than a generic “best salon” ranking.

8. 03 Hair Salon: use the new College Street address

03 Hair Salon's official site says it has moved to 370 College Street. Older Baldwin Street listings still appear in search results. Follow the salon's current address, not an old directory.
The salon focuses on Japanese cutting techniques. That makes it a relevant quote to seek for a precise shape, but it does not prove that every stylist is right for every texture.
The useful part: online booking and a clear current location. The limitation: we have not established one current all-in women's cut price that applies across its team. Get your chosen stylist's quote before treating it as an under-$100 option.
Bring reference photos, including a view of the back. Explain how you normally dry your hair. A cut designed for a daily blowout is a poor bargain if you always let your hair air-dry.
Book online or call 416-979-5405. The salon says email is not a booking method. Choose it when the stylist's work, quoted service and price fit your needs.

Twenty ways to get a useful cut without a surprise bill

- Name a total budget. Say “I need to stay under $80 before any optional tip” instead of asking only if the salon is cheap.
- Describe your current length. Use a body landmark, such as your chin, shoulders or mid-back.
- Mention thickness as well as length. A short, dense cut can take more work than long, fine hair.
- Ask about your texture. Request examples of the stylist's work on similar curls, coils or straight hair.
- Separate a trim from a new shape. A small amount removed can still require a full precision cut.
- Ask what the wash includes. Some prices include shampoo; others assume clean, dry hair.
- Confirm the finish. A quick dry-off and a styled blowout are different services.
- Ask about heat-tool extras. Flat-ironing or detailed curling can increase time and cost.
- Choose the stylist tier yourself. Ask the rate before accepting a different person.
- Check trainee supervision. Ask when an educator reviews the cut and what happens if it needs a correction.
- Allow the full appointment time. A low-price student cut is not useful if you must leave halfway through.
- Bring two or three clear photos. Explain which parts you like rather than asking for an exact copy of different hair.
- Explain your home routine. Tell the stylist if you have five minutes each morning or never use hot tools.
- Ask before adding a treatment. “Would you like a treatment?” is not the same as “This is included.”
- Get colour quoted separately. Highlights, toner and extra product can change a modest haircut bill by a lot.
- Check whether colour includes a cut. A package that includes styling does not necessarily include cutting.
- Ask about a consultation for tangles. Do not assume serious detangling fits within a normal haircut slot.
- Read the cancellation rule. A missed inexpensive appointment can still be charged in full.
- Ask about corrections before you need one. Find out the time limit, who performs the revision and whether it costs extra.
- Compare the cost over a year. A cut that grows out well for your needs can cost less overall than a cheap shape that needs constant visits.
Here is a useful message to copy:
My hair is [length] and [texture/thickness]. I want [trim or new shape]. Please quote the total for the cut, wash and finish with the stylist you suggest. Does that include tax and any required fee? How much time should I allow?
What a low menu price leaves out

Don't compare a $22 cut with an $85 complete appointment without checking the contents. Add the wash, styling, any required fee, applicable tax and your own choice of tip to your plan. Ask whether the displayed price includes tax.
Travel matters too. Saving $10 is not much of a saving if it requires a long trip and paid parking. Start with the best quote you can reach easily, then widen your search if it does not fit.
For school appointments, time is the main trade. For regular salons, the chosen stylist and service category often explain the price gap. Neither a low price nor a high price guarantees that a person understands the haircut you want.
Grey hair does not automatically mean you need colour. If you like your grey, ask for a cut that works with it. Keep any colour discussion separate from your haircut budget.
Other local price leads that need a fresh quote

GOA, Eternity, Fabian's, Covi, House of Hair, Fresh Hair by Karen, Wooden Scissors, Earth, Parlour, Perfect X Hair, Oriental Hair Salon, Nice Cut, D Square, Emerald Hair and Beauty, Bower Birds and H&Co also came up during our research. Their reported prices were not confirmed as current all-in women's haircut offers in this check.
Confidence: unconfirmed for price, checked September 22, 2026. A current stylist-specific booking menu or a written salon quote would change that. These names are leads, not ranked recommendations at a promised price. GOA's own location page lists several branches, so name the branch when asking.
Do not travel to any of these expecting an old $20, $30 or $50 price. Ask the same wash, cut, finish and tax question first.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I get a women's haircut in Toronto for less than $40?
Marca College lists a $22 haircut and a $35 cut and style. These are supervised student services. Confirm what your chosen appointment includes and whether any extra charge applies to your request.
Can I get a wash, cut and style for less than $70?
Hair Tree lists that package from $55. N15 lists women's cut and style from $64, and Civello's Young Talent cut package starts at $65. Starting prices do not guarantee your final bill stays below $70 once tax or extras apply.
Is a salon-school haircut a good idea?
It is a sensible budget option when you can allow extra time and accept a supervised learning process. Explain the cut before work starts and ask how the educator checks it. Use a regular stylist if a tight deadline or a difficult change makes that process a poor fit.
Is a trim always cheaper than a haircut?
No. A trim can still require a full appointment to keep a bob, fringe or layered shape even. Ask the salon which service fits your request rather than assuming that removing less hair costs less.
Why does long or curly hair cost more at some salons?
Some salons price by time, length, texture or the type of cut. Ask which factor changes your quote and what work is included. Do not accept a vague extra charge only after the service is finished.
Are there pay-what-you-can haircuts in Toronto?
LES Studio says it offers them once a month. The next date, available spaces and eligibility need confirmation with the studio. Regular LES appointments are not automatically pay-what-you-can.
Do I have to book a women's service if I want a short cut?
Follow the salon's own service definitions. Gender-neutral salons such as LES and Proudest Pony price by the work involved. Explain your existing length and desired shape so the appointment has enough time.
What should I do if I dislike the result?
Contact the salon promptly and describe the specific issue with clear photos. Ask about its correction policy and deadline. Keep your booking details and receipt, and avoid assuming every salon offers a refund or free revision.
Start with a complete quote and a stylist who understands your hair. That is the best way to make an affordable cut stay affordable.
