For a short Saturday shop, our first choice is the St. Lawrence Garage at 2 Church Street. Green P lists a special rate of $1 per hour for the first two hours, with entry between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. Check the entrance signs for changes and special-event pricing.
North Market is the alternative for a taller vehicle and parking right under the new building. It has a higher listed clearance, but its ordinary rate is $3 per half-hour. Don't mistake that for $3 an hour.
The main deal-breakers are vehicle height, Church Street restoration work and the route from your parking bay to the street. For a light shopping bag, we'd take transit. Circling for an on-street space is the weakest plan on a busy visit.
Rates and official pages checked October 10, 2026. The figures below are Green P's published amounts. Its two carpark pages don't separately break out HST. Check the displayed charge and receipt rather than adding an assumed tax amount to these examples.
| Rate or limit | St. Lawrence Garage, carpark 43 | North Market, carpark 72 |
|---|---|---|
| Listed address | 2 Church Street | 92 Front Street East |
| Ordinary rate | $2.50 per half-hour | $3 per half-hour |
| Weekday day maximum, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. | $16 | $18 |
| Night maximum, 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. | $8 | $9 |
| Weekend day maximum, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. | $9 | $9 |
| Saturday short-shop offer | $1 per hour for first two hours, qualifying entry time | No equivalent listed |
| Listed clearance | About 1.98 metres (6.5 feet) | About 2.2 metres (7.22 feet) |
| Special-event rate | $12 at entry when applicable | Check posted conditions |
North Market also explicitly lists its $9 daytime maximum for holidays. Church's page says regular rates apply on holidays unless otherwise posted. A daytime maximum isn't a 24-hour price. Staying into the night period can add a new charge.
St. Lawrence Garage: the best value for a short Saturday visit

The official Green P listing for carpark 43 is the place to start. This is the large garage south of the market. Its 2 Church Street address doesn't mean you should blindly head for a single Church Street ramp.
The City's Market Gallery directions also identify access from Market Street south of The Esplanade, with connections from Church and Yonge. Choose the current signed entrance for your approach. Market Street beside the shopping blocks and an entrance south of The Esplanade are different parts of the street.
The Saturday offer is useful, but read the limit
Both the garage page and the market's own parking page advertise $1 per hour for the first two hours on Saturdays. Green P specifies entry between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m., followed by regular rates after those first two hours.
On that published offer, two hours is $2. That is a meaningful saving beside the North garage's Saturday daytime cap of $9. But it isn't a promise of $2 for an afternoon, a night out or a whole day.
We verified the public offer on both official pages. There isn't a promo code or an online checkout to test. We haven't driven through the gate to test the charged amount. Look at the rate board before entry, especially when an event rate is posted.
Make this the first choice when you have a short shopping list, a vehicle that fits, and a usable entrance. Don't spend the saving by adding another hour while looking for one more snack.
Restoration changes the appeal
The garage is undergoing a phased restoration programme. Green P's August 2025 notice includes work on levels P1 to P4 in 2026 and 2027.
That notice is a programme, not a live inventory of every open bay and staircase. It doesn't prove that the entire garage is closed. Older 2023 staircase notices also aren't today's entrance instructions.
The good: the Saturday offer, lower ordinary rate and a large listed garage.
The bad: lower clearance and restoration uncertainty. Its listed capacity of 1,969 spaces isn't a count of spaces you can use today.
If you need a particular entrance, elevator or accessible bay, confirm that route with Green P before leaving. Pick another approach if the restoration notice makes your required route uncertain.
North Market garage: direct location, higher clearance and a busy street exit

The new underground garage is Green P carpark 72, at 92 Front Street East. It isn't carpark 125. The North building contains the Saturday farmers' market and other uses, with parking below it.
Look for the green Green P Entrance sign on the Jarvis Street side of the North building. The official garage photograph shows separate entry and no-entry lanes. A map pin for the Front Street address is a location aid, not an instruction to drive through the pedestrian front doors.
Check the carpark listing and current street signs before choosing an approach. If navigation sends you around a blocked street, follow the legal detour. Don't invent a turn across traffic to get back to the pin.
What the rate means in practice
Its ordinary rate is $3 per half-hour. One hour at that rate is $6. Two hours on a weekday within the daytime period is $12. On Saturday or Sunday, the published daytime maximum is $9.
These examples stay within one rate period and assume the posted ordinary schedule. They don't include EV charging or establish a new price for crossing from day to night.
For a weekday market visit lasting long enough to reach the daytime cap, North is $18 beside Church's $16. Paying the difference makes sense if the location or extra clearance solves a real need. It doesn't make sense just because the building is newer.
Leave room for the exit, as well as the shopping
Jarvis Street carries traffic toward the waterfront. A garage driveway also crosses a busy sidewalk. Stop for pedestrians and wait for a clear, permitted movement.
Don't nose your vehicle into someone's walking path to force a gap. Don't cross several lanes at the last moment for a Front Street turn. If your preferred turn isn't possible, use a legal route around the block.
We aren't assigning a fixed extra 15 minutes to the exit. Traffic, the time of day and street work change that. But a quick ramp entry doesn't guarantee a quick trip back to the Gardiner.
Our verdict: use North for direct market access and a vehicle that needs its higher clearance. For two hours of Saturday bargain shopping, Church's posted special is the stronger price.
Clearance, accessible routes and payment: check these before the ramp

Measure the whole vehicle. Roof racks, a roof box, mounted equipment and anything else above the roof count. The posted entrance bar is more useful than hoping your van is “about two metres.”
North lists approximately 2.2 metres. Church lists approximately 1.98 metres. If you're close to the limit, don't test it by slowly driving under the bar. Confirm the actual route and clearance with the operator or choose a suitable alternative.
Door openers: not confirmed
Checked October 10, 2026. Confidence is low on the current door-opener status. Recent visitor reports describe accessible bays and elevators at North Market, but also report missing power door openers between the garage and elevators and at street exits.
We haven't confirmed those reports with the operator. They aren't proof that every door is unusable, and a new building isn't proof that every access feature works. An official confirmation or a current access check could change this advice.
If you can't manage a heavy manual door, call Green P at 416-393-7275 or St. Lawrence Market at 416-392-7219 before travelling. Ask about your route from the bay to the street, functioning door buttons, elevator availability and how assistance is arranged. Don't rely on an unconfirmed promise that security will be there immediately.
For the South Market, the City's Market Gallery page describes an elevator inside the main Front Street doors. That's a separate building from the North garage. Check the full path between the place you park and the stalls you need.
Don't assume every Green P garage uses the same app process
North's listing gives Auto Express pay stations and payment at exit lanes. It lists coins and Visa, Mastercard or American Express. It doesn't list the Green P app as its payment method.
Church's page explicitly links Scan, Park and Go. The system uses your own app QR code to start a gated session at entry and finish it at exit. The parking charge is then taken from the app wallet.
Know your licence plate and keep any ticket or payment information the garage gives you. Green P notes that some garages require the plate for pedestrian re-entry. A previous visitor's lost-ticket story isn't a promise that every future exit will work with a plate alone.
If you've already pulled a paper ticket, follow that garage's payment instructions. Don't assume that paying for a street location in the app has paid the gated ticket too. Use the help point if the payment route is unclear.
Charging costs are extra
North lists four Level 2 chargers on P1 at the foot of the ramp. Church lists Level 2 and DC chargers, including the two faster chargers opened in June 2026.
A charger isn't a free parking space. Green P's EV guidance separates charging from parking. Check the connector, charger display and total cost for your stay.
Don't build a timed shopping trip around a promise of a full battery in under an hour. The vehicle, battery level and charger all matter, and an installed charger isn't a live availability guarantee.
For a one-off visit, skip monthly permits. The current carpark pages list $285 at Church and $360 at North. Those are monthly products with their own terms, not automatic bargains for weekend shoppers.
When transit is the better choice

For a sandwich, a light grocery bag or a look around, we'd take transit and walk. Driving can be sensible for a large shop, limited mobility or a group trip, but the garage price is only part of the cost. Fuel and slow traffic matter too.
From King station, walk east along King Street, then south toward the market at Front and Jarvis. From Union, follow Front Street east. Choose a route you can manage with the bags you'll carry back, not just on the empty-handed walk there.
There's a real accessibility limit: King's current TTC page still lists it as not accessible. Elevator construction isn't the same as elevators being in service.
Union station is the alternative to check for an accessible subway exit. Check live elevator alerts and the walking route before travel. A longer outside walk can still be a deal-breaker for a particular person.
The 504 King route is another option near the district. Consult its current stops and service notices rather than assuming a familiar streetcar is using its normal path that day.
If you're travelling on GO, check the actual return service from Union. We aren't promising parking at your home station or quoting a fare without your starting point.
Choose transit for a light visit. Choose the car because it solves the load or access problem, rather than because you've already found a cheap parking quote.
Plan the market visit before you pay to park

North and South aren't interchangeable. The South Market has permanent food stalls. The North farmers' market is a Saturday visit. The North building also hosts other events and court services, so seeing activity there doesn't tell you the farmers' market is open.
The official hours page currently lists:
| Part of the market | Regular hours |
|---|---|
| South, Tuesday to Friday | 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. |
| South, Saturday | 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
| South, Sunday | 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
| South, Monday | Closed, unless a listed special opening applies |
| North farmers' market, Saturday | 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. |
Check holiday exceptions. For example, the South Market is closed on Thanksgiving Monday, October 12, 2026. Its December 21 special opening shows why “always closed Monday” isn't a complete holiday rule.
If you're after a particular cut of meat, product or vendor, check that stall's details before making the trip. Our St. Lawrence Market food guide helps choose a reason to visit, rather than paying to browse with no plan.
We wouldn't drive across the GTA and pay to park just for ordinary groceries available near home. A specific specialty shop, family outing or combined visit is a stronger reason. Park once if your other destinations are comfortably walkable with your group and purchases.
Skip the hunt for a perfect street space
A street meter, private garage and Green P garage can have different conditions. Don't assume the closest meter is the cheapest legal option or that paying overrides a no-parking period.
Use our guide to Toronto parking signs before leaving the car. Read the time limit and restrictions at the actual space. Don't use a loading area as a shopping shortcut.
Old private-garage day rates and old claims that North is nearly empty aren't a current price or space guarantee. If a private operator suits your route better, compare the exact entrance, date, clearance, day/night period and final quote. We haven't verified a current market-purchase validation discount at North.
For a longer family outing, plan breaks as well as parking. Our Toronto public washroom guide is useful when the rest of the route goes beyond the market.
Make the decision before heading downtown: Church for a qualifying short Saturday shop, North for its location or clearance, and transit for a light visit. Check the entrance and access route, then stop searching for a theoretical perfect spot.

Frequently asked questions
Where is the new St. Lawrence Market parking garage?
It's Green P carpark 72 under the North Market building at 92 Front Street East. Look for the signed garage ramp on the Jarvis Street side. The Front Street address is the building location, not a direction through the pedestrian doors.
What is the cheapest parking for a short Saturday market shop?
Church Street's St. Lawrence Garage lists $1 per hour for the first two hours when you enter between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday. Regular rates apply after that period. Check posted special-event conditions before entering.
Is North Market parking $3 an hour?
No. Green P's current rate is $3 per half-hour, or $6 for an ordinary full hour. The published Saturday and Sunday daytime maximum is $9. Check the rate board for the conditions that apply to your visit.
Does a $9 daytime maximum cover parking overnight?
No. The day period ends at 6 p.m. and a separate night period runs to 7 a.m. A stay across periods can incur another charge, so don't use the daytime maximum as a 24-hour quote.
Can a tall van use the market garages?
Check its complete height, including anything on the roof. North lists about 2.2 metres of clearance; Church lists about 1.98 metres. Confirm the route if your vehicle is close to the limit, and don't use the height bar as a trial run.
Is the North garage route fully accessible?
We haven't confirmed the current door-opener status. Recent reports raise concerns about manual doors despite accessible spaces and elevators. Ask Green P and the market about the full route and assistance before travelling if you need those features.
Can I pay for both garages with the Green P app?
Don't assume so. Church's official listing offers Scan, Park and Go. North's listing names pay stations and exit-lane payment, rather than listing the app. Follow the system and signs at the garage you use.
Is St. Lawrence Market open on Mondays?
The South Market is normally closed Monday, and the North farmers' market operates Saturday. Holiday schedules can include special Monday openings. Check the official hours for your date before paying for parking.
