Our verdict: EPOCH is one of the most useful hotel teas for weekday plans and groups with different food needs. Its official FAQ offers vegetarian and vegan tea changes. CLOCKWORK wins for a grand room across from Union. EPOCH wins when a wider choice of tea times matters. Skip it if you mainly want an inexpensive lunch.
Google showed 4.3 out of 5 from 446 reviews on September 7, 2026. That is the EPOCH restaurant listing. It includes dinner and drinks, so it is not a score for afternoon tea alone. We checked the menus, booking offers, current social photos and visitor feedback. We have not eaten here ourselves.
Afternoon tea: prices, food and the fall change
The current Traditional Afternoon Tea booking lists $85 per adult and $40 per child. The booking instructions say to count everyone in the party, then select the children in the add-on section. The public listing does not give a clear child age limit. Confirm that before booking for an older child.
The official tea page lists Monday to Friday from noon to 4 p.m., and weekends from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Reserve the tea experience itself. A normal restaurant reservation is for the separate lunch or dinner menu.
The price changes this fall. The dated booking offer lists $95 per person from October 1 to November 30, 2026. Do not budget from an old $85 screenshot for an October visit. The fall offer describes seasonal sandwiches, scones and pastries, but its full dish list and child price need confirmation.
The current tea menu has four savouries: an egg tart, crab bite, duck cannoli and beef sandwich. Scones come in plain and cranberry versions, with house-made Devonshire cream and two jams. Desserts include a chocolate s’more, a filled choux pastry, a strawberry blondie and a pistachio-cherry cake.
That menu is more varied than cucumber sandwiches and a slice of cake. It also contains meat, shellfish, dairy and nuts. If those ingredients rule out half the stand, arrange a different version before paying. The small dishes are part of a set experience, not a pick-any-four sandwich counter.
Tea choices include jasmine white tea, sencha, lychee green tea and lavender Earl Grey. Herbal choices include chamomile and rooibos blends. Tell the server if you want a plain cup, a floral flavour or a caffeine-free drink. Price does not make a tea you dislike taste better.
The main planning mistake is treating the base price as the final bill. Two $85 adult menus start at $170. Drinks outside the set, tax and gratuity increase that amount. Ask about any service charge and group billing rule. Check what is already included before adding a tip.
Book tea when you want time to sit and enjoy it. Do not squeeze it between a late train and an early theatre curtain. Tell staff about any hard departure time when you reserve. The tea is better value when the room and the conversation are part of the afternoon.
The room, terrace and honest tradeoffs
EPOCH has indoor dining, a bar and a terrace. Official photographs show upholstered chairs, greenery and an outdoor fire feature. August 2026 visitor photos still show that fire feature and terrace layout. Ask which area your reservation covers. A terrace photo does not guarantee a terrace table.
What visitors liked: the three recent Google reviews we read in full praised the staff, comfortable setting and unhurried visits. Two described birthday teas. One praised the tea range, savouries and pastries. Another liked how staff handled a change in group size.
Those reports support EPOCH as a celebration choice. They do not guarantee that staff can hold your table for a late group. Keep the restaurant informed if your plans change.
The main drawback is cost. One birthday reviewer was surprised by the final bill after extra drinks. We did not see the receipt, so that does not prove a billing error. It is a useful reason to ask for an estimate and check extras as you order.
The regular food menu is also expensive. Listed examples include a $37 burger, pizzas around $30 to $32, and $19 fries. Many cocktails cost $26 to $32. The room is the reason to accept those prices. If you just want a burger, choose somewhere less costly.
For a smaller visit, book drinks and one shared dish instead of the full tea. That gives you time in the room with fewer courses. Check the current menu and any minimum spend before assuming a bar visit will be cheap.
The venue promotes DJ dining on Friday and Saturday. Its Instagram shows drinks, food and evening events as well as tea. This is not a silent tearoom at every hour. Choose a daytime booking for conversation, and ask about that day’s music if sound is a concern.
The terrace is the stronger choice when outdoor seating is the point. Choose inside when weather, sun or a fire feature would make you uncomfortable. Confirm a weather backup before making a patio table the centre of a celebration.

Valet is listed at $30 for up to three hours, then $10 for each extra hour. That is a meaningful extra cost on top of tea. Transit makes more sense when the car does not solve a specific travel or access problem. Confirm the dining valet rate before handing over the keys.
EPOCH’s own FAQ says business casual. A neat, comfortable outfit is a sensible choice. The hotel and booking pages use slightly different dress labels, so ask directly if you are unsure about an outfit for a special event.
The restaurant offers a children’s menu on request. For afternoon tea, ask what the child set contains and whether it suits your child. A lower price does not make a slow meal fun for a child who would rather run around.
