CLOCKWORK is the Fairmont Royal York’s lobby lounge at 100 Front Street West, across from Union Station. Choose it for a dressed-up tea or a drink beneath the large clock. The setting is the main draw. It makes a simple catch-up feel like an occasion.
Our verdict: this is a strong first hotel tea for visitors arriving by train. September’s weekday service is the better place to start if price matters. Choose Shangri-La if you prefer a room with large windows. Skip CLOCKWORK if you need a cheap lunch or a quiet, private tearoom.
Google showed 4.4 out of 5 from 615 reviews when checked on September 7, 2026. That score covers the whole lounge, including cocktails and meals. It is not a score for afternoon tea alone.
Afternoon tea: prices, menu and what to book
Book the tea experience by name on CLOCKWORK’s current reservation page. A normal table booking is not the same thing. The older separate OpenTable address for Royal York afternoon tea returned an error during our check.
The reservation page lists weekend tea at $48.50 to $97 per person, with different price options. Weekday Tea Time is listed at $45 to $75. Check which option applies to each guest. Don’t assume the lowest figure is the regular adult price, or that these are final totals.
Budget for tax, any service charge, tips and extras. The weekend booking panel offered Champagne for another $35 and Dom Pérignon for another $150. Those extras are optional. Ask what is included before adding one.
September weekday tea is confirmed. CLOCKWORK’s September 3 Instagram announcement says it continues Monday to Friday through September. Its booking period ends September 30. Some older wording still says August. The weekday menu also has fewer listed items than the weekend version, so the lower price does not buy an identical spread.
Fairmont’s current tea page lists weekend service from noon to 3 p.m. and September weekday service from noon to 2 p.m. CLOCKWORK’s own site shows a wider weekend window. Use the actual available booking times for your date, rather than arriving at the end of a general opening-hours window.
Expect scones, small savoury bites, sweets and Fairmont’s LOT 35 teas. The posted weekend menu includes chicken and egg sandwiches, smoked salmon, a shrimp and lobster roll, and an asparagus tart. These are examples from the menu checked on September 7. Seasonal changes are part of the experience.
The current menu says the scones come with mixed berry compote and whipped cream. Don’t book expecting clotted cream just because a review or photo uses that name. For tea, the list includes familiar black teas and choices such as chai and oolong. Ask the server to help match the tea to what you like.
The good: several visitors praise the setting, helpful staff and food. A Google tea review described a successful gluten-free request. The drawbacks: another wanted more scones, and one disliked weak tea after the pot was topped up. Recent OpenTable reviews also raised small portions, slow service and music that made conversation harder. Other diners reported attentive service, so a poor visit is not a universal pattern.
Our advice is to book when you can linger. Tell the host if you need a quieter table, and ask for help if the tea becomes weak. Confirm dietary changes directly before reserving. A positive review about one person’s request is not a promise that every allergy can be handled.
Cocktails, the room and getting there
You do not need to order tea to enjoy CLOCKWORK. The lounge has breakfast, meals, snacks and a long drinks list. On the menu checked September 7, most of the listed house cocktails were $21 to $36. The spirit-free drinks were $17 to $19. This is a hotel-bar budget even if you skip alcohol.
For a shorter visit, choose a drink and one plate to share. That is our pick if you mainly want to see the room. For a full tea ritual, book tea. An expensive seafood tower is a separate meal and does not improve the value of a tea visit.
The lounge sits within the working hotel lobby. It has high ceilings, warm lighting and plenty to look at. It also has passing guests and music. A Google visitor found it dark even in the daytime. Choose it for a warm indoor setting, rather than bright window-side photos.
Wear something neat and comfortable. The booking page lists smart casual. A jacket or dress can suit the occasion, but there is no need to turn it into a costume unless that is part of your own plan.
Address: 100 Front Street West, Toronto, ON M5J 1E3. Union Station is directly across Front Street. TTC and GO are the easiest starting points for most visitors. Valet parking is available at the hotel’s east entrance, and the hotel lists nearby self-parking options. Parking costs are extra.
Access needs a current check. Fairmont’s guest-services notice describes East Wing work that changes the route to the lobby. The Front Street entrance remains open. Guests using the east entrance can be guided through the Avenues level to the main elevators. The East Wing elevators do not provide direct lobby access during the work.
Call 416-368-2511 before arrival if you need a step-free route, a suitable table or help reaching the washroom. Don’t rely on a generic wheelchair icon to explain the temporary route. Leave a little extra time to meet hotel staff.

Don’t assume it is. The confirmed weekday offer runs through September 30, 2026. Check the booking page for later dates, because the standing hotel tradition is weekend tea.
Is Champagne included in afternoon tea?
Treat it as an extra unless your chosen package says otherwise. The weekend booking panel listed separate Champagne add-ons during our check. Ask for the full price before adding a glass.
Can I bring children?
Ask the restaurant which tea option and menu apply to the child’s age. The booking page shows a price range, but that alone does not explain the age rules. Include every child in the party size and confirm seating needs before arrival.
Can CLOCKWORK make a vegan or gluten-free tea?
The booking profile lists vegan and gluten-free options, and some guests report helpful changes. Contact the restaurant about the full tea menu before booking. Confirm both the food substitutions and any allergy limits with staff.
Is there a rooftop garden tour with tea?
We did not find a rooftop tour included in the current tea booking. Older visitor reports mention one, but that does not make it part of today’s offer. Ask the hotel directly if the tour is the reason you want to book.
How long should I allow for a visit?
Leave room for a relaxed afternoon rather than fitting tea into a short break. Confirm any table time limit with the restaurant. If you have a train or theatre ticket, tell the server when you need to leave and keep a buffer for delays.
