Edithvale is a strong local choice for an indoor walk, a simple workout or a regular class near Yonge and Finch. The elevated track is the main draw on a wet or cold day. The building also has court sports, craft rooms and a kitchen. It does not have a pool.
Before you go: the City has posted a gym closure for September 21–27, 2026, while it replaces the lights. The walking track will open at 4 p.m. each day during that week. Check the City’s Edithvale page and service alerts before leaving home. This notice was checked on September 20.
Our verdict: choose Edithvale when you live nearby and want several ways to stay active in one building. For a swim, use the City’s pool finder. For a no-cost workout, check the City’s free recreation centres. Edithvale is not on that free-centre list.
Start with the indoor track

The track runs above the gym. You get a covered place to walk without buying a treadmill or planning around the weather. It is a better fit for a steady local routine than a special trip across Toronto.
The regular timetable checked on September 20 listed track sessions from 7:15 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends. The September 21–27 repair notice takes priority: that week starts at 4 p.m., with the same listed closing times.
The building itself normally stays open an hour later. Do not use the front door’s closing time as the track’s closing time.
Edithvale’s schedule labels the track for ages 13 and up. The City’s general track rules allow younger children with direct adult supervision, along with strollers and walking devices. Call 416-395-6164 to confirm how that rule applies to your planned session. This is especially useful before arriving with a young child.
We could not confirm a current track-only price from the centre’s listing. Ask the desk whether your visit needs a fee, pass or sign-in. Do not buy a full fitness membership just to walk without checking first. Choose the track when indoor walking is the goal; check the route and turning space before treating it as a place for fast training runs.
Choose the right gym pass

The weight and cardio room has exercise machines. The City also lists fitness and dance studios. A membership covers certain activities, not every program in the building.
These are the City’s adult rates checked on September 20, 2026. Tax is extra where it applies.
| Option | Adult price | What it is useful for |
|---|---|---|
| FitnessTO, one month | $33.73 | Weight and cardio rooms |
| FitnessTO, three months | $52.58 | A longer gym routine |
| FitnessTO, 12 months | $177.70 | Regular year-round use |
| FitnessTO All Access, one month | $49.44 | Gym visits plus drop-in fitness classes |
| Single fitness class | $10.64 | Trying one class before committing |
| FitnessTO Plus Swim day pass | $4.39 | A one-day weight or cardio room visit |
The day pass’s name includes swimming because it works at City locations with pools. It does not add a pool to Edithvale. Read the current FitnessTO prices and pass rules before buying. Youth and older-adult rates are lower. Memberships have a surcharge for people who live outside Toronto.
For a basic workout, start with the cheaper gym option. Pay for All Access when you will use the classes. The checked timetable included yoga, Pilates, Zumba, chair-based movement and other fitness sessions. Age limits differ between classes.
Google reviewers often praise the clean, bright rooms. Some describe the weights area as small. Visit the room before paying for a long membership if you need a certain machine or a wide choice of free weights. This is a practical neighbourhood gym, and that is the right way to judge it.
Court sports need more planning

Edithvale offers separate sessions for adults, teens, children and families. A basketball slot for ages 13 to 15 is not an adult open gym. A family session also has its own age rules.
The week of September 14 listed adult basketball, volleyball, badminton, pickleball, soccer and table tennis. It also listed older-adult and family sessions. These are useful choices to look for in the live schedule. They are not a promise that the same game runs at the same time every week.
Skip the indoor gym from September 21 to 27, 2026. The City’s posted repair closure applies even if you find an older sports timetable elsewhere.
For later visits, open the Sports section on the official location page, choose the correct week and check your age group. Then ask the desk when sign-in begins and what equipment to bring.
There is a real catch with drop-in play: showing up does not guarantee a place. A Google review described a dispute over people joining the line out of turn. Other local reports also raise concerns about busy badminton sessions. We could not verify a fixed waiting time or a standing queue rule for this centre.
Our advice is to call before a first visit, arrive for the stated sign-in time and have a backup plan. Do not travel across the city for a popular drop-in game if being turned away would spoil the evening. A registered program is the better route when you need a set weekly commitment.
There is more here than exercise

The building includes craft rooms, preschool spaces, lounges, meeting rooms and kitchens. The yellow kitchen shown here gives a better sense of the space than a list of room names. It does not mean the room is open for anyone to use without a booking.
Use the City’s registered programs at Edithvale to check the current term. Look at the age range, remaining spaces and full fee. The centre’s room list is not a class schedule.
Edithvale is also home to community groups. North York Choralairs lists Tuesday rehearsals from 6:45 to 9 p.m., September to June, with a $235 season fee. Its 2026–2027 joining page says it is seeking a few new singers. There is no audition, but there is a short voice-range check. Ask Choralairs about joining before attending.
That choir fee is separate from City recreation passes. Ask the group which room it uses and whether any building work affects the rehearsal. A gym closure does not, by itself, confirm that every other meeting is cancelled.
For a room rental, ask staff which space fits your group, how many people it holds and what the total fee includes. Kitchen access, setup time and equipment should be clear before you book. One Google reviewer reported an uncomfortably hot meeting room. That is one person’s account, but it is a useful reason to ask about room temperature for a long event.
Getting here, access and the park outside

Address: 131 Finch Avenue West, North York, Toronto, ON M2N 2H8. The centre is west of Yonge Street, at Edithvale Drive. Use the map below for the building, not an old listing for the former school.
The 36 Finch West bus serves Edithvale Drive. Check the TTC’s current route and stops. The City lists a path from the sidewalk or TTC stop to the entrance, bike parking and a Wheel-Trans pickup point near the door.
The City also lists an elevator, accessible washrooms on all floors, powered outside doors and free accessible parking spaces. Choralairs describes free parking for its rehearsals. Check the signs when you arrive. We have not confirmed a total number of parking spaces.
The regular building hours are Monday to Friday, 7:15 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Holidays, repairs and individual programs can change the visit you have planned. Call the centre if you need to confirm a particular entrance, room or elevator.
The outdoor court in the photograph is part of the neighbouring park. It is a useful warm-weather addition, but it does not make an indoor sports booking unnecessary. Families also mention the outdoor play areas in their reviews. Keep children close through the parking area: one visitor reported drivers entering through the marked exit. We could not verify that as a regular pattern.
Google showed 4.5 out of 5 from 998 reviews when checked on September 20. Cleanliness, children’s activities and the range of spaces come up often. Staff feedback is mixed, with praise for help and complaints about drop-in sign-in. Use those reports to plan questions, not as a guarantee about your visit.

Frequently asked questions
Does Edithvale Community Centre have a swimming pool?
No. The City lists a gym, track, fitness rooms and other activity spaces, but no pool. Use the City’s pool finder if swimming is your main plan.
Is everything at Edithvale free?
No. Edithvale is not one of the City’s listed free recreation centres. Prices depend on the activity, age group and pass. Ask about the track’s current access rules before buying a gym membership.
Is the gym open during the September repairs?
The City has posted a gym closure for September 21–27, 2026. During that week, the track opens at 4 p.m. each day. Check the current service alert before going, because repair dates can change.
Can I turn up for basketball or badminton?
Use the current drop-in timetable and choose the right age group first. Ask when sign-in opens and whether you need to bring equipment. A listed session does not guarantee that there will be room for you.
Is the centre wheelchair accessible?
The City lists an elevator, accessible washrooms on all floors, accessible parking and powered exterior doors. It also lists access to program areas. Call before visiting if you need a specific room layout or confirmation that equipment is working.
Can I join the choir without an audition?
Choralairs says no audition is needed, but it checks your voice range. Its listed season fee is $235, with Tuesday evening rehearsals from September to June. Contact the choir about openings before coming to a rehearsal.
Do the gym and track stay open until the building closes?
Not necessarily. The checked regular timetable ended track and weight-room sessions at 9 p.m. on weekdays and 8 p.m. on weekends. Those times were one hour before the building closed. Always use the activity’s own hours.
