Shangri-La Toronto

Shangri-La is our strongest all-round alternative to Yorkville. Its University Avenue location sits between the Financial District and the Entertainment District. Queen Street West is nearby, and a day can move from galleries and shopping to dinner or a show without a long trip back to the hotel.

Rooms, facilities and the reason to book

The 20-metre indoor lap pool is the standout practical feature. It sits under a glass roof, with a hot tub and other health-club facilities nearby. If swimming is part of your daily routine, that is a better match than a small rooftop plunge pool built around lounging. The health club’s posted pool and hot-tub hours are 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Keep the arrival instructions handy. The postal address is University Avenue, but the hotel says its main entrance is on Simcoe Street, between Richmond and Adelaide. That matters when a driver is dropping you off with luggage.

Getting there: St Andrew station on Line 1 is nearby to the south. Osgoode is another option to the north. The large roads around the hotel make this feel more like central Toronto than a tucked-away retreat.

Our call: Choose Shangri-La when you want to see the city and still get a useful indoor swim. Pick Yorkville if browsing smaller streets and spending most of the day at the hotel sounds better.
