The best mattress is not the one with the most awards. It is the one you can test, return under clear rules, support on the right base and afford after tax, delivery and setup.
Start with your sleep position, heat, motion and edge-support needs. Try a few mattresses in person if possible. Then read the trial and return terms before paying. A 365-night trial is not useful if pickup, condition or retailer rules make the return hard.
The short buying plan
- Set a total budget, including a base and protector.
- Write down your top two sleep problems.
- Test three firmness levels, not twelve brand names.
- Check trial, return, pickup and warranty terms.
- Buy from the seller whose policy you understand.
- Keep the receipt, tags and required support.
The fastest way to stop the research spiral is to limit the choice before you shop. Pick one foam mattress, one hybrid and one traditional coil mattress that fit the total budget. Test those three. Add a fourth only when it solves a clear problem the first three do not.
Do not begin with twenty brand tabs. Most mattress pages repeat the same words: cooling, support, pressure relief and premium. Those words become useful only when you connect them to a real detail such as coil count, foam thickness, edge construction, trial rules or the feel under your own body.
What type of sleeper are you?
Side sleeper
You may prefer enough surface give for the shoulder and hip, with support that stops the middle from dropping too far. “Soft” is not a medical measurement, and body weight changes how it feels.
Back sleeper
Look for even support without a large hollow feeling under the lower back. A very soft top can feel good for five minutes and less stable over a full night.
Stomach sleeper
Many stomach sleepers prefer a firmer surface that limits hip sink. Pillow height also matters.
Combination sleeper
Focus on easy movement and a surface that works in more than one position. A deep, slow foam can make turning feel harder for some people.
Couples
Test motion transfer, edge support and usable width. If your needs are very different, a split king or two twin XL mattresses may be worth the extra complexity.
Also test the mattress with both people on it. A model can feel firm when one light person lies in the middle and much softer when two people share the same support layers. Sit near each other, turn over and use the edge as you would at home.
Body size matters, but there is no honest weight chart that guarantees comfort. Ask whether the maker publishes a total weight limit and whether the warranty changes for an adjustable base, narrow slats or missing centre support. Treat a salesperson's comfort opinion as a starting point, not a diagnosis.
Learn the main mattress types
| Type | Usual feel | Main advantage | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|
| All-foam | Close contour and lower bounce | Good motion control | Can feel warm or slow to move on |
| Hybrid | Foam or latex over coils | Stronger edge and easier movement | Heavier and often more expensive |
| Innerspring | Bouncy and familiar | Airflow and edge options | Can transfer more motion |
| Latex | Responsive and durable-feeling | Easier movement and less sink | Heavy, expensive and a distinct feel |
These are broad patterns. Construction quality matters more than the marketing label.
Firmness numbers are not standard
One company's “medium-firm” can feel like another company's firm. A number out of ten is a description, not an industry test.
Body weight also changes the experience. A light sleeper may stay near the surface. A heavier sleeper may engage deeper layers and feel less firm.
Use firmness labels to choose test candidates. Do not use them as proof that a mattress will fit you.
Test a mattress in a Toronto showroom
Lie down for at least 10 minutes in your normal position. Bring your partner if you share the bed. Wear flexible clothing and try the edge, turning and getting up.
Do not test only by sitting on the corner. Do not let a salesperson rush you through six beds in five minutes.
Ask for the exact model name and firmness. A showroom sample may have softened through use. A boxed mattress at home may take time to expand and settle.
Toronto showrooms for major online brands
GoodMorning Mattress Store Etobicoke
The GoodMorning Mattress Store opened in 2026 at 160 Silver Reign Drive, Unit 1, in Etobicoke. It displays Douglas, Octave, Logan and Cove, and Juno products.
This corrects older advice that described Douglas as online-only. The company says the 365-night trial applies to eligible in-store and online purchases. Confirm the exact model and terms on your receipt.

Silk and Snow
Silk and Snow lists a Toronto showroom at 670 Caledonia Road. It also lists partner display locations at EQ3 Liberty Village and King East.
A partner retailer may have different purchase, trial and return rules. Ask who takes your payment and whose policy controls the sale.

Dozy Sleep
Dozy Sleep has a showroom at 290 Queen Street West. The company says its mattresses are made in Canada and that its full range can be tested at the Toronto store. It also advertises free delivery in much of the GTA, with same-day delivery sometimes available when stock, timing and location allow.
Dozy came up repeatedly in recent Toronto buyer discussions. The useful part of that feedback is not that one brand won a popularity contest. It is that several buyers valued being able to test foam and hybrid models in person, ask questions without a large showroom maze and arrange local delivery.
Check the current trial, return, pickup and old-mattress removal terms before paying. A friendly showroom visit does not replace written policy.

Traditional retailers
Sleep Country, The Brick, Leon's, IKEA, Costco and department or furniture stores let you compare different brands. Their floor models, clearance items, delivery and return rules vary.
Do not assume a manufacturer's online trial applies when you buy through a retailer.

Toronto mattress brands people often compare
| Brand or line | Main style | Trial point to check | In-person option |
|---|---|---|---|
| Endy | Foam and hybrid models | 365 nights for current eligible direct purchases, with conditions | Check current showroom or retail partners |
| Douglas | Canadian-made foam and hybrid lines | 365-night eligible direct trial | Etobicoke showroom |
| Silk and Snow | Foam, hybrid and organic options | 365 nights, minimum 30 nights and conditions | Caledonia showroom and selected partners |
| Juno | Lower-cost foam | Trial and bundle terms through GoodMorning | Douglas showroom listing |
| Logan and Cove | Hybrid | Direct trial terms | Douglas showroom listing |
| Hush | Cooling-focused foam and hybrid marketing | Confirm model-specific trial and pickup | Check current retail display list |
| Casper | Foam and hybrid | Confirm current Canadian policy and seller | Retail partners vary |
| Simba | Hybrid models | Retailer may control the trial | Check current Canadian seller |
This is not a ranking. Model construction, price and policies change. The table is a shortlist for testing.
Endy vs Douglas vs Silk and Snow vs Juno
These four names can look almost identical after an hour of shopping. They are not identical, but the right comparison is smaller than the marketing makes it seem.
| Brand | Best reason to start there | Main question to answer | Where to test in Toronto |
|---|---|---|---|
| Endy | You want a widely known Canadian foam or hybrid option | Which firmness and construction are in the exact model you are buying? | Check the current Endy showroom and retail list |
| Douglas | You want several foam and hybrid levels plus a long direct trial | Is the Original enough, or are you paying for upgrades you can actually feel? | GoodMorning Mattress Store Etobicoke |
| Silk and Snow | You want foam, hybrid or organic construction in one brand family | Are you buying direct or through a partner with different return terms? | Caledonia showroom and selected EQ3 partners |
| Juno | You want the lower-cost starting point | Does the thinner, simpler build provide enough support and edge comfort for you? | GoodMorning Mattress Store Etobicoke |
Douglas currently lists several foam and hybrid models. Juno is the simpler budget line in the same wider company group, with a shorter current trial than Douglas. That does not make Juno bad. It means the lower price comes with fewer layers and fewer features to compare.
Endy and Silk and Snow also sell more than one construction. Never compare only the brand names. Write down the full model, height, materials, firmness choice, trial length and regular price. A sale can make an upgraded model look close in price today and very different when you need an exchange later.
Our practical starting point is simple. Try Douglas or Juno side by side if budget is the main question. Add a Silk and Snow hybrid if you want coils and stronger edges. Add an Endy model if its feel or local access works better for you. Stop when one option clearly meets the need and the return rules are understandable.
What Toronto buyers reported after living with the mattress
Recent buyer discussions did not produce one clear winner. That is useful information.
Some owners reported many comfortable years on Endy, Douglas, Silk and Snow, Logan and Cove, Casper and traditional coil mattresses. Other people described heat, early softness, sagging or a feel that simply did not suit them. The same brand could receive opposite reports.
Four patterns were more useful than the votes:
- A mattress can feel firmer during its first few nights and soften as the materials settle.
- A weak frame, old box spring or wide slat gaps can feel like a mattress problem.
- Heavier sleepers and couples may use the deeper support layers differently from a lighter solo sleeper.
- Foam heat complaints depend on the room, bedding, protector and person as well as the mattress.
Owner stories can tell you what to investigate. They cannot predict your body. Look for reports that name the exact model, purchase year, body size, base and problem.
The three-option rule for an overwhelming showroom
Tell the salesperson your total budget and two needs. For example: “I sleep on my side, I get hot and I need everything under $1,500 after tax.” Ask to see no more than three mattresses at first.
Test the least expensive one before the premium one. If the cheaper mattress feels good, ask what the higher price changes. Useful answers include better edge structure, more durable materials, different coils or a clearer trial. “More luxurious” is not enough.
Take a photo of each model card. Leave the store before paying if the offer depends on an immediate decision. A real mattress will still exist after lunch, even if a particular bundle changes.
How mattress trials really work
A sleep trial is a return policy with conditions.
Endy
Endy currently advertises a 365-night trial for eligible mattresses purchased on or after November 15, 2025. It limits the trial to one per household and applies condition and pickup rules.
Silk and Snow
Silk and Snow's current direct terms describe a 365-night trial with a minimum 30-night adjustment period. Eligible returns may be donated, and pickup access matters. The policy refers to ground-floor pickup in some cases.
Douglas
Douglas advertises a 365-night trial for eligible direct purchases, including its showroom. Check the minimum try period, location coverage, condition and return procedure for the exact order.
Retailer purchases
A mattress bought at Costco, IKEA, Sleep Country or another retailer follows that seller's policy unless the paperwork clearly says otherwise. A brand website cannot override your sales receipt.
Ontario does not give a general right to return a mattress
Ontario does not provide a general cooling-off right for every store purchase. A business can set its own return and exchange policy unless a specific legal rule applies.
That makes the written policy part of the product. Read it before paying.
Ask:
- Is a refund available, or only exchange credit?
- Is there a minimum number of nights?
- Who arranges and pays for pickup?
- Must the mattress be on a ground floor?
- Are stains, smells or damage disqualifying?
- Is a protector required?
- Are adjustable bases, pillows and bundles final sale?
- Is a floor model final sale?
- What happens to a promotional gift if you return the mattress?
Take a screenshot or save the terms that applied on purchase day.
Trial versus warranty
A trial answers: “Do I like this mattress?”
A warranty answers: “Does this mattress have a covered defect?”
A warranty usually does not cover normal softening, comfort preference, stains or damage from the wrong base. It may define a minimum visible indentation depth and require proof of support.
Long warranty years look impressive, but the exclusions and remedy matter more. A 15-year limited warranty is not a promise that the mattress will feel new for 15 years.
The bed base can void the warranty
Check required slat spacing, centre support and frame strength. A queen or king mattress may need a centre rail with legs to the floor.
An old box spring can sag. A platform with wide gaps can let foam sink between slats. An adjustable base needs a compatible mattress.
Photograph the base before setup. Keep the model label and receipt.
A bunkie board or solid support panel can sometimes improve a weak platform, but it may also reduce airflow or conflict with the warranty. Do not add one only because another buyer said it fixed sagging. Check the exact maker's base rules first.
Cooling claims need careful reading
“Cooling” can mean a cool-to-touch cover, gel foam, breathable fabric or more airflow through coils. The first touch may feel cool while the full-night temperature changes little.
Room temperature, sheets, protector, duvet, body size and hormones can matter as much as one foam layer.
If you sleep hot, compare hybrids or latex, lighter bedding and a breathable protector. Do not pay a huge premium for one trademarked fabric without a return plan.
Mattress reviews are useful and dangerous
Many mattress review sites earn an affiliate commission. Some companies own several mattress brands and comparison sites. That does not make every review false. It creates an incentive you should see.
Look for:
- clear disclosure of affiliate payment
- exact model and test date
- body size and sleep position of the tester
- measured construction, edge and motion details
- criticism as well as praise
- return-policy discussion
Ignore a site that gives every mattress an award or uses a countdown timer to create panic.
Bedbugs and used mattresses
A used or floor-model mattress can save money, but Toronto has a real bedbug risk.
Inspect seams, labels, tufts and the base for live bugs, dark spotting, shed skins or eggs. Ask where the mattress was stored and whether it can be returned. Do not pick up a curb mattress.
A clean-looking surface is not proof that a mattress is pest-free. If you suspect bedbugs at home, read the City of Toronto's bed bug guidance and ask a licensed pest professional about the next step.
Delivery questions people forget
- Will the box fit in the elevator and hallway?
- Does the condo require a service-elevator booking?
- Is old-mattress removal included?
- Is removal recycling or disposal?
- Does the driver enter the unit?
- Are stairs extra?
- What happens if the item is damaged at delivery?
- How long must a boxed mattress expand before use?
Measure the tightest turn, not only the bedroom.
A realistic mattress budget
Do not spend the whole budget on the mattress.
Include:
- mattress
- suitable base or frame
- waterproof, breathable protector
- delivery and setup
- old-mattress removal
- sheets if the height or size changes
- financing interest
A sale price that forces a high-interest payment plan is not a bargain.
Compare the regular mattress price and the full delivered price. Free pillows, sheets and protectors can be useful, but they are not free if the mattress costs more than the better-fitting alternative. Ask what happens to every promotional item if you return the mattress.
A 20-minute showroom test
- Lie on your side for five minutes.
- Lie on your back or stomach for five minutes.
- Turn over several times.
- Sit and lie near the edge.
- Have your partner move while you stay still.
- Ask for construction, trial and warranty documents.
- Leave without buying if you feel rushed.
You can return after comparing the total.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best mattress to buy in Toronto?
There is no single best model. Choose based on sleep position, body size, heat, motion, edge support, budget and return policy. Test several firmness levels and buy from a seller with clear terms.
Can I try Douglas mattresses in Toronto?
Yes. Douglas opened an Etobicoke showroom in 2026 at 160 Silver Reign Drive, Unit 1. It displays Douglas and related GoodMorning brands. Confirm hours before going.
Does Ontario law let me return a mattress?
Ontario has no general right to return or exchange every store purchase. The retailer's written policy usually controls. Read trial, exchange and final-sale terms before paying.
Is a 365-night mattress trial really free?
Not automatically. Trials can require a minimum number of nights, a clean undamaged mattress and an eligible pickup location. Bundles and retailer purchases may have different rules.
Is a hybrid mattress better than foam?
Hybrids often provide stronger edges, easier movement and more airflow. Foam can offer better motion control and a closer contour. Construction quality and personal comfort matter more than the category name.
How long should I test a mattress in a store?
Spend at least 10 to 20 minutes in your normal positions. Test turning, edge support and partner movement. A quick sit on the corner tells you very little.
Can I return a mattress bought from a retailer under the brand's online trial?
Usually the seller's policy controls. A mattress bought through a retail partner may not have the same trial as a direct website purchase. Get the rule in writing on the receipt.
Should I buy a used mattress in Toronto?
The savings may not be worth the bedbug, hygiene and return risk. Never take a curb mattress. If buying used or a floor model, inspect it carefully and get final-sale terms in writing.
The bottom line
Ignore the award badges and endless foam names. Test three realistic options, read the return policy and check the base. The best Toronto mattress purchase is the one that still makes sense after the sale timer disappears.
