Canada has 42 Michelin Key hotels in the 2026 selection. But choosing the most decorated one isn’t always the smartest trip. A downtown hotel, a lakefront inn and a wilderness camp solve very different problems.

For a historic city break, our pick is Auberge Saint-Antoine in Quebec City, with one condition: check how its current expansion affects your room. For a shorter escape from Toronto with a car, start with The Royal in Picton. And skip The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto for a spa-led stay during its announced spa closure.

This guide covers every Canadian winner, with a photo, map and a reason to choose each one. Our picks are editorial judgements based on the hotels’ locations, facilities and published details. They aren’t claims that we’ve stayed in every room.

The official Michelin selection, released September 18, 2026, contains two Three-Key hotels, eight Two-Key hotels and 32 One-Key hotels. Keys recognise hotels. Stars recognise restaurants. A hotel Key doesn’t give every restaurant inside that hotel a Michelin Star.

Four Seasons Hotel Toronto

Four Seasons is the safest place to start if you want the hotel itself to fill a weekend. The spa, indoor pool, Café Boulud and d|bar give you several reasons to stay put. Yorkville’s shops and restaurants are outside when you want a change.

The main practical limit is pool timing. The hotel separates family swim and adult relaxation periods on weekends and holidays. That’s useful for adults seeking quiet, but parents should build it into the day.

The Hazelton Hotel Toronto

Two Keys · Toronto · Best for room space and a smaller Yorkville hotel

The Hazelton has 62 rooms and 15 suites. Its published average room size is more than 620 square feet, which makes space a real reason to choose it. This is a useful alternative to booking a large luxury tower simply because the brand is familiar.

ONE Restaurant and the Spa by Valmont keep dining and downtime close. The indoor saltwater pool adds a proper swimming option beyond a decorative rooftop plunge pool.

Park Hyatt Toronto

One Key · Toronto · Best for the ROM and an evening above the city

Park Hyatt sits at Avenue Road and Bloor, beside the Royal Ontario Museum and the edge of Yorkville. Its location makes a museum afternoon and a dressed-up dinner easy to put together.

Writers Room Bar is the draw upstairs. The 17th-floor room gives a hotel evening a sense of occasion, but it admits guests aged 19 and older. A family booking doesn’t change that rule.

Shangri-La Toronto

One Key · Toronto · Best for a proper indoor pool downtown

Shangri-La’s 20-metre lap pool is a strong reason to stay here. It gives swimmers more room than the small outdoor pools that feature so heavily in hotel photos. The lobby lounge adds an easy meeting place before dinner or a show.

The University Avenue address puts you between the Financial and Entertainment districts. Arriving by car? The entrance is on Simcoe Street between Richmond and Adelaide, so use the arrival instructions rather than circling the tower.

The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto

One Key · Toronto · Best for Wellington Street and theatre plans, with a spa warning

The Ritz-Carlton is well placed for a downtown evening, with the theatre district nearby and Union and St. Andrew stations within reach. Its Wellington Street location is a practical reason to choose it over a hotel farther west.

But don’t book a spa weekend here without reading the current notice. The hotel announced a spa closure from September 21, 2026, with reopening planned for late February 2027. The pool and fitness centre remain open under that notice.

Bisha Hotel Toronto

One Key · Toronto · Best for a dressed-up night out

Bisha suits a trip built around restaurants, drinks and the Entertainment District. The rooms use bold patterns and rich textures. KŌST, on the 44th floor, adds the high-up city setting many visitors picture when they book a Toronto hotel.

The rooftop pool needs a separate reality check. The hotel lists a weather-dependent season from mid-May to the end of October, with daytime access for hotel guests. A rooftop photo isn’t proof that swimming will be available on your dates.

Book Bisha for its style and location near Blue Jays Way. If an all-weather pool is essential, Shangri-La is the clearer choice. Check Bisha’s current amenities.

Ace Hotel Toronto

Ace makes the building part of the stay. Shim-Sutcliffe Architects designed its strong brick and concrete spaces, including the suspended Lobby bar. Alder and rooftop Evangeline give guests more than one place to spend an evening.

The Camden Street address is useful for exploring the Garment District and Queen West. This is our Toronto pick when design and the surrounding streets matter more than a classic luxury-hotel routine.

1 Hotel Toronto

One Key · Toronto · Best for King West and plant-filled interiors

1 Hotel’s wood, greenery and natural textures give it a clear identity. The Wellington Street West location works for a weekend around King West, with the hotel as part of the social plan.

Be realistic about the rooftop pool. This is a seasonal plunge pool, and the hotel publishes access and seating limits. It isn’t the place to choose for long indoor swims or a guaranteed poolside chair whenever you turn up.

Belvedere Hotel

One Key · Kingston · Best for a small heritage hotel near the waterfront

Belvedere is in Kingston’s Sydenham Ward, in a 19th-century residence on King Street East. Its 29 rooms make it a much smaller proposition than a big downtown convention hotel. The waterfront and historic streets are the reason to stay in this part of Kingston.

The hotel also has a lower-level bathhouse and a food offering developed with chef Matt DeMille. Check the bathhouse booking terms before treating it as an included, walk-in amenity.

The Smith Hotel

The Smith turns a former church into 10 lofts with exposed brick and generous living spaces. Equipped kitchens are the practical draw. You can settle in with groceries instead of arranging a restaurant meal every time you’re hungry.

Reserved parking is included, and the hotel uses self check-in with a mobile concierge. That setup suits independent travellers. It needs a different expectation from a hotel where a large front-desk team handles every arrival in person.

Read this award’s name carefully. Michelin lists the Fairmont Château Laurier Gold Experience, which is a specific level of stay. Don’t book the cheapest room in the wider hotel and assume you’ve bought the same thing.

Gold adds its own arrival service and lounge benefits, including breakfast and evening canapés. The location beside the Rideau Canal locks, close to the ByWard Market, also gives you a useful base for a first Ottawa visit.

Merrill House

One Key · Picton · Best for an individual room with character

Merrill House has 14 individually designed rooms filled with a mix of art, antiques and unexpected details. It’s the County option for someone who wants a room that has a personality, rather than a carefully repeated hotel scheme.

The property also has gardens, a sauna and wine-focused spaces. But confirm your dining plans. At our check, the hotel’s site promoted French catering and private dinner or event bookings. That isn’t a promise of a restaurant serving every guest every night.

The Royal gives a short County trip a useful centre. You’re on Picton’s Main Street, with restaurants in the hotel and town around you. The restored 1879 building has 33 rooms across the main hotel and the Royal Annex.

The Annex studios have a different feel from the main building, so compare both before choosing. A spa, sauna, gym and guest pool terrace add reasons to leave part of the weekend unplanned. The restaurant’s connection to Edwin County Farms gives the food a local focus.

Quebec offers the widest range of short-break moods here. Choose Montreal for a city weekend, Quebec City for historic streets, or leave the city for a lake, a mountain or Charlevoix.

Four Seasons Hotel Montreal

Two Keys · Montreal · Best for a modern Golden Square Mile stay

Four Seasons sits on Rue de la Montagne, with a connection to Holt Renfrew Ogilvy. That makes shopping and downtown dining a natural part of the stay. Its 169 rooms put it firmly in the full-service city-hotel category.

Marcus is the main dining draw. The Guerlain Spa and a skylit indoor pool give you reasons to slow down between plans. This is a different Montreal trip from staying among the older streets near the port.

Manoir Hovey

Manoir Hovey sits on Lake Massawippi in the Eastern Townships. The original manor dates to 1899, and the lakeside setting is central to the stay. Le Hatley, the hotel’s restaurant, makes dinner part of the destination.

The thermal spa and heated outdoor pool give a cooler-weather visit a purpose beyond sitting by the lake. Room locations vary, with the main house and other accommodation around the property offering different experiences.

Auberge Saint-Antoine

Auberge Saint-Antoine makes history part of the hotel through artifacts found on the site. The Old Port address is its other strength. You can step out into Quebec City’s older streets instead of making the hotel a separate excursion.

Coteau and Bar Artefact give you dining and drinks on the property. But there is an important current caveat: the hotel is expanding, with 25 additional rooms, a spa and a rooftop restaurant planned for mid-2027.

Le Germain spreads across several pavilions in Baie-Saint-Paul. The farm setting, including Highland cattle, gives the property a different feel from a formal château. It suits a trip that mixes the town’s art scene with outdoor time in the wider region.

Les Labours and Le Bercail provide dining choices, while the Nordic spa is a reason to leave room in the schedule. Room styles vary between buildings, so the pavilion name matters when comparing prices.

Place d’Armes occupies four buildings in Old Montreal. The setting gives it a strong sense of place, but it also means you should expect differences between room categories and parts of the hotel.

Rainspa is a practical reason to compare it with other nearby properties. It has a hammam, a steam-bath space, as well as treatment rooms. Book the experience you want rather than assuming a room reservation covers every spa service.

The rooms are modern hotel rooms within a historic building. If your main reason to splurge is the view, check the category carefully. An exterior photograph of the château says little about what you’ll see from your own window.

British Columbia: 10 Michelin Key hotels

British Columbia’s list stretches from downtown Vancouver to a wilderness lodge you can’t drive into. Choose the kind of trip first. The award level won’t solve the transport question.

Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge

Three Keys · Bedwell River Valley · Best for an organised wilderness escape

Clayoquot’s 25 luxury tents sit in the remote Bedwell River Valley. This is a full destination stay, with meals and a range of guided activities built into the lodge’s approach. It isn’t a campground beside a road where you can arrive whenever you like.

The published 2026 season runs from May 21 to September 27. Stays follow set three-, four- or seven-night patterns, with arrivals on Thursdays or Sundays. Getting there involves a seaplane from Vancouver or a boat transfer from Tofino. Transfers are a separate cost to check.

Choose Clayoquot if you want the lodge to organise a substantial part of your time outdoors. Skip it for a casual one-night add-on. Read the season, stay lengths and inclusions before booking transport, and use the lodge’s arrival information, not driving directions to a map pin.

Rosewood Hotel Georgia

Hotel Georgia’s West Georgia Street address is a strong starting point for a first Vancouver city stay. The heritage building gives the hotel its character, while its central location makes it easier to spend the day beyond the property.

Hawksworth, Reflections, the Georgia Bar and Prophecy give the food-and-drink offering real range. The spa and indoor pool are useful if you also want part of the visit to feel like a hotel break.

Four Seasons Resort Whistler

Four Seasons has 273 rooms and suites, a heated outdoor pool open year-round, and dining at SIDECUT and Braidwood. Gas fireplaces in the rooms add a clear reason to enjoy the hotel after a day outside.

Its ski concierge is useful, but don’t confuse a good ski service with the exact position of a slope-side hotel. Four Seasons describes its location as minutes from the lifts. Compare that with the Chateau’s direct Blackcomb access if skiing is the deciding factor.

Wickaninnish Inn

The Loden has 77 rooms on Melville Street in Coal Harbour. Floor-to-ceiling windows and a smaller scale make it a useful alternative to Vancouver’s larger luxury hotels. Tableau Bar Bistro gives you a dining option attached to the hotel.

The location is the key distinction. Start here if Coal Harbour is the part of downtown you want to spend time in, rather than choosing a hotel solely from a photograph of its lobby.

Wedgewood Hotel & Spa

Wedgewood is a family-owned hotel with 83 rooms beside Robson Square. Bacchus, its restaurant and lounge, is central to the hotel’s traditional feel. This is a good fit for someone who prefers a warm, formal setting to a large contemporary tower.

The hotel currently says its rooms have been refurbished and updated photographs are coming. That makes it especially important to ask for current images of the room you’re considering. Older room photographs may no longer show the final design.

Fairmont Empress

The Empress faces Victoria’s Inner Harbour. Its 1908 building and afternoon tea make it one of the hotels where the public spaces are a reason to visit in their own right.

With 431 rooms, it’s a substantial hotel. Choose it if you want that grand-hotel experience, with dining at Q and a spa available alongside the waterfront location. A specific view still depends on the room you reserve.

Magnolia Hotel & Spa

Magnolia is close to the Inner Harbour on Courtney Street. It gives you a useful Victoria base without choosing a large landmark hotel. The Courtney Room and Spa Magnolia add dining and treatment options on the property.

This is the Victoria hotel we’d compare first if the Empress’s scale feels like more than you need. The appeal is the smaller setting and central location, rather than buying into a famous building.

Nita Lake Lodge

Nita Lake Lodge is in Creekside, beside the lake. That address matters. It isn’t in the main Whistler Village, so don’t book it expecting every Village plan to begin outside the lobby.

The suites, spa and lake-facing setting make a strong case for spending more time at the lodge. The Den, Lakeside Lounge and Fix give you several ways to eat or pause between outings.

Alberta: six Michelin Key hotels

The Alberta winners all hold One Key. Two are city hotels, while four are in the mountains. Lake Louise village, the lakeshore and Bow Lake are different locations, so zoom in before you book.

Fairmont Banff Springs

One Key · Banff · Best for a large mountain resort with a historic setting

Banff Springs gives you the castle-like building, the mountain setting and a broad choice of hotel facilities. Restaurants, a spa and golf make it a strong option if your group wants different things from the same trip.

But the scale is part of the decision. This is a large resort, and the exterior doesn’t guarantee a spacious room or a mountain view in every category. Study the accommodation details as carefully as the landscape photography.

The downtown Calgary address is the practical draw. This works as a city break or a stop before another part of an Alberta trip. It doesn’t replace a mountain stay if that’s the experience you’re travelling for.

Hotel Macdonald dates to 1915 and sits above the North Saskatchewan River Valley. That position gives the hotel a different setting from a typical downtown business property, while keeping you in central Edmonton.

The hotel promotes renovated rooms, but the river-facing experience still depends on the category. Choose the view deliberately if it’s a large part of what you want from the stay.

Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

The Chateau’s advantage is its position at the lake. If waking up here and walking straight into that setting is the point of your trip, the location can matter more than a longer list of facilities elsewhere.

The hotel’s BASIN Glacial Waters adds a wellness option, but access needs its own check. Don’t assume every room package includes it. The same goes for the view: a hotel beside a lake doesn’t mean every room looks across it.

Post Hotel & Spa

The Post Hotel is in Lake Louise village, with roots going back to 1942. Wood interiors, fireplaces and a serious wine cellar give it a clear identity. The Dining Room and Temple Mountain Spa make staying in for an evening an easy part of the plan.

Rooms, suites and cabins offer different ways to stay. This is the place to compare when you want a lodge atmosphere and a proper dinner more than the Chateau’s immediate lakeshore position.

The Lodge at Bow Lake

The red-roofed Lodge at Bow Lake sits along the Icefields Parkway. The lake and mountains are the point. Michelin groups it with Lake Louise, but this isn’t a hotel in Lake Louise village, so use the actual lodge location when planning your route.

The lodge operates seasonally. Its published pattern includes a late-May to mid-October summer and fall season, plus a more limited winter schedule. Don’t assume it accepts arrivals on every date of the year.

Choose Bow Lake when you want the landscape to set the pace. Check operating days, road conditions and your arrival plan before paying for a non-refundable stay. Read the lodge’s current seasons and stay details.

Newfoundland and Labrador: Fogo Island Inn

Fogo Island Inn has 29 rooms with large Atlantic-facing windows. The building is striking, but the reason to come is the island around it: the landscape, local craft and the pace of being somewhere that takes effort to reach.

The inn sells a full-board experience and says it reinvests all operating surpluses in the community. Compare the package inclusions rather than putting its total beside a city hotel’s room-only price.

Travel needs real space in the itinerary. The inn’s suggested route from Gander includes roughly an hour to Farewell and a ferry crossing of about 45 minutes, followed by travel on Fogo Island. Ferry waits and flight connections add to that.

Book Fogo for a trip built around the destination. Don’t squeeze it into a spare night between other plans. Read the inn’s arrival guide and current stay information first.

Nova Scotia: Muir

Muir sits in Queen’s Marque on the Halifax waterfront. Its architecture and interiors draw on the region, while the address puts the harbour at the centre of the stay. This is a straightforward choice if you want a city break with time by the water.

The hotel’s wellness spaces include a vitality pool, steam room, infrared sauna and salt room. A private art gallery and water-based experiences add to its sense of place, though special experiences need their own availability and price check.

Choose Muir when the waterfront is the reason you’re visiting Halifax. Confirm which facilities and activities are covered by your booking rather than assuming the whole experience is bundled. Explore Muir’s current offering.

Before you book a Michelin Key hotel

Compare the whole stay. Put the same dates, number of guests and room category into each quote. Then check breakfast, parking, taxes, mandatory charges, spa access and cancellation terms. A room-only city rate and a remote lodge package aren’t directly comparable.

Choose the room, not the marketing photograph. Lake views, river views, terraces and large suites are often separate categories. The Ritz-Carlton Toronto photograph in this guide shows a Wellington Suite. It doesn’t describe every room in the hotel.

Read the current notices. The Toronto Ritz-Carlton spa closure, Auberge Saint-Antoine’s expansion and seasonal pool or lodge schedules can change the value of your trip. Ask for written details when a facility is the reason you’re booking.

Get the location right. Nita Lake Lodge is in Creekside. The Post Hotel is in Lake Louise village. The Lodge at Bow Lake is farther along the Icefields Parkway. Clayoquot requires organised access by boat or air. The maps below each profile are useful starting points, but a remote lodge pin isn’t a transport plan.
