Mooncakes in Toronto: Where to Buy Singles, Small Boxes and Special Gifts in 2026

You don't need a large gift box to try a mooncake. Our first pick for a small modern box is Bake Code: two cakes for $18. For one traditional cake, start with Dieu Ky's posted single-piece menu. Kwan also sells singles, but its Markham pickup is a longer trip for most Toronto readers.

Daan Go is our pick for a four-flavour dessert box. The $115 Fête Chinoise set makes sense as a charity and design gift. Skip it if you just want to taste a mooncake.

For a downtown single, T&T at College and Spadina remains a useful stock-check lead. We have not confirmed today's individual-cake selection or price there. Do not make a long trip for an unverified shelf item.

The main catch is timing. Bake Code's listed pickup starts on September 25. Daan Go's snow-skin cakes need a freezer. Neither suits every gift plan.

Checked September 10, 2026. Mid-Autumn Festival falls on Friday, September 25 this year. Prices below are posted prices before any applicable tax, delivery or other checkout charges. These are buying recommendations based on menus, prices and practical limits. We have not run a taste test.

The buying options below separate confirmed prices from stock-check leads. Toronto and Markham are shown separately in the maps. A map is not a stock check.

1. Bake Code: our pick for two people trying modern flavours

Bake Code’s six-piece mooncake gift set
Bake Code’s six-piece mooncake gift set. Archive photograph. Photo: Bake Code.

Best for: a small shared tasting. Value verdict: the pair has the lowest starting spend; tax changes the comparison if you want six.

The current Bake Code mooncake shop lists two pieces for $18 and six for $60. The collection's URL still says 2025, but its live products give pickup dates of September 25 to October 4, 2026. Use the dates on the product and order confirmation.

The pair starts at $9 per cake. The six-piece set is $10 per cake, but its listing says no tax. The pair is marked taxable in the shop. If checkout adds 13% HST, one pair becomes $20.34 and three pairs become $61.02. That makes the $60 six-piece set slightly cheaper for six. Check the final total before choosing.

The range includes black sesame, matcha with red bean, ube, lotus, double salted egg, and pistachio with chocolate. The two-piece listing asks buyers to put their flavour choices in the order comments. Make sure those choices appear in the final order.

For a North York pickup, the official store directory lists 4910 Yonge Street, Unit 101, near Sheppard Avenue. Check the location offered by the shop before paying. A nearby Chatime does not automatically handle this preorder.

Pros: a modest starting spend, several different fillings, and a useful Yonge Street location. Cons: no earlier pickup on this listing, no proof that a single cake costs $9, and several common allergens across the range.

Choose the two-piece box if September 25 or later works. Choose another bakery for an earlier gift.

2. Dieu Ky: start here if you want one cake

Traditional mooncakes shown by Dieu Ky bakery

Best for: a single traditional mooncake in Scarborough. Value verdict: a better starting point than buying a large set you might not finish.

Bánh Trung Thu Dieu Ky's menu has a useful feature: separate prices for one cake and a box. Several soft mooncakes are listed at $12 each. Selected lotus, coconut, taro and green-bean cakes are $13.25, while several two-yolk versions are $14.

This is an undated menu on the bakery's current site. Treat it as a price to confirm, not a promise that every flavour is waiting on the counter. The business lists 328 Passmore Avenue, Unit 48, and 416-979-7928. Ask which singles are available, when they were made and when you can collect them.

For a simple first order, ask about one lotus cake with one yolk. If salted egg does not appeal, the menu also lists no-yolk choices. Do not assume that “no yolk” means vegan or that a mixed-nut cake contains no meat.

Pros: single-piece pricing, many traditional fillings, and less money tied up in packaging. Cons: a trip to northern Scarborough, no live flavour-by-flavour stock count, and a price list that needs a phone check.

Choose Dieu Ky when you want to learn what you like, one cake at a time. Do not drive across the city without confirming pickup.

3. Kwan Specialty: a clear single-cake option in Markham

Kwan mooncake gift box
Kwan mooncake gift box. Archive photograph. Photo: Kwan Specialty.

Best for: traditional double-yolk fillings, especially if you are already near Woodbine and Highway 7. Value verdict: good for a local pickup; weak for a small delivery order.

Kwan's order page lists one cake for $13, two for $25, and four for $48 at regular prices. Its lower member prices are $10.50, $20 and $38. Membership pricing requires sign-in. We have not tested a member account, so the regular price is the fair public comparison.

Pickup is listed for September 7 to 25 at 8261 Woodbine Avenue, Unit 3, Markham. The five listed flavours are yellow lotus, white lotus, winter melon, green tea and red bean. Each is a double-yolk version.

Kwan's delivery minimum is $200 in merchandise. Listed delivery charges are $12 for Markham or Richmond Hill and $15 for Toronto, North York or Scarborough. That setup is for a group order. It is not a sensible way to try one $13 cake.

Pros: clear single and box prices, five classic choices, and pickup before the festival. Cons: the advertised member saving is conditional, every listed mooncake has two yolks, and the delivery minimum is high.

Pick up one if you live nearby. Do not add $187 of food just to reach a delivery minimum.

4. Daan Go traditional: our pick for a mixed baked set

Four baked Daan Go mooncakes beside their closed gift box

Best for: a four-flavour gift for someone who likes both familiar and newer fillings. Value verdict: a clear mixed set at a moderate gift price.

Daan Go's traditional set lists four 120 g cakes. The flavours are pistachio with salted egg, hojicha, white lotus with salted egg, and a mixed-nut version. The early price is $45, reduced from the listed $50 regular price, through September 14. After that deadline, budget for $50 unless the live shop confirms a new offer.

Pickup and delivery are listed from September 12. The maker gives storage instructions for this exact set. Read them when your order arrives, especially if you are giving the box to someone several days later.

A central pickup option is 241 Spadina Avenue, inside R&D. Daan Go also lists 3380 Midland Avenue, Unit 11, in Scarborough. Select the right location during ordering. The product page saying “all locations” does not reserve a pickup slot for you.

Pros: four different fillings, two Toronto locations, and a set that helps a group compare tastes. Cons: no single-piece option on this listing, nuts and other allergens, and a temporary price that will change.

Choose this for a mixed baked box. If you only want one lotus cake, use a seller with singles.

5. Daan Go snow skin: best for dessert at home

Four coloured snow-skin mooncakes from Daan Go

Best for: sharing a chilled dessert with a small group. Value verdict: useful variety, but the storage rules are a real limit.

The snow-skin set has four 110 g cakes: hojicha with black sesame crunch, Jamocha Nut, mango cheesecake, and salted egg yolk. Its early offer is also $45 through September 14, against a listed $50 regular price, with pickup or delivery from September 12. Check the price again if ordering after the offer ends.

We checked the live cart on September 5. It showed a $45 estimated subtotal, with tax, discounts and shipping calculated later. An older $40 search result was already out of date. No purchase was made.

These cakes require frozen storage. This is not the box to carry through a full afternoon of errands. Plan a direct trip home with a suitable cooler, then follow the maker's thawing instructions. Do not apply instructions for a baked mooncake to this set.

Pros: distinct dessert flavours and a useful four-way tasting. Cons: cold storage, a less flexible gift handoff, and ingredients that rule it out for several diets. The mango version lists bovine gelatin.

Choose snow skin when you control the trip and freezer space. Choose the baked set when those details are awkward. The map below shows the Scarborough pickup; the Spadina option is mapped above.

6. Fête Chinoise: a charity gift, not the cheap way to taste mooncakes

Best for: someone who wants the collector's design and charity project. Value verdict: a special gift, expensive as a food purchase.

The 2026 Love at Mid-Autumn set is $115. It contains four full-size heart-shaped mooncakes made by Saint Germain Bakery in Canada, a mahjong-themed tin, reading material and gift extras.

The project says 100% of net proceeds support its beneficiaries. That does not mean the full $115 purchase price is donated. The June early-bird promotion is over.

Pickup is arranged from early September at 9-7755 Warden Avenue, Markham, after buyers receive an email. This is an office pickup, not a bakery counter where you can drop in for one cake. GTA shipping is offered, with the charge depending on the order.

Pros: a distinct design, Canadian-made cakes and a charity purpose. Cons: a high starting spend, arranged pickup and extra items that some buyers will not want.

The product photograph shows the packaging because that is a large part of what you are paying for. If the recipient only wants dessert, spend less on a smaller box.

Pick a filling before paying for a big box

Start with one cake or a small pair, then share small wedges. A full-size mooncake is rich. Buying one per person is not the only way to serve it.

Salted egg changes both the flavour and texture. Two yolks leave less room for the paste. Choose one yolk for a first try, or a clearly labelled no-yolk version if salted egg does not appeal. More yolks are not an automatic upgrade.

Compare cake weights as well as piece counts. Daan Go's baked cakes are 120 g each; its snow-skin cakes are 110 g. A smaller box can cost less overall even when its price per gram is higher. That is often the better deal for someone trying mooncakes for the first time.

Ask about ingredients for the exact flavour

Do not assume lotus means vegan, or that snow skin means gluten-free. These ranges include eggs, dairy, nuts, sesame and other ingredients. Daan Go's mango cheesecake version lists bovine gelatin. Mixed-nut recipes also need a full ingredient check.

For an allergy, ask about shared equipment as well as the filling. A label that gives no clear answer is a reason to contact the maker before ordering. For a gift, keep the ingredient information with the cakes.

Plan pickup and storage before choosing the prettiest box

Bake Code's pickup starts on September 25. Daan Go's starts September 12. Kwan lists September 7 to 25. A box ready after your dinner is the wrong purchase, however good it looks.

Frozen snow-skin cakes need a direct trip home and freezer space. Ask the maker about transport and thawing for your journey. A cool autumn afternoon does not replace cold storage. Tell a gift recipient what storage they need before handing over the box.

Baked cakes have their own instructions. Check the date and what changes after opening. Do not borrow another brand's shelf life or assume every cake can wait several weeks. Buy for the day you will eat it.

Do not depend on a sale after September 25

A markdown after the festival is possible. A specific shop, flavour and discount are not confirmed. Stock can sell out or leave the shelf instead. This is a low-confidence possibility as of September 10, based on past seasonal shopping reports. It is not an announced 2026 sale. A current store flyer or shelf label would confirm an offer.

Wait only if you are flexible about flavour and timing. Buy earlier for a particular gift. Skip a large clearance box if you will waste most of it, even when the discount looks generous.

Other leads that need a stock check

Wai Tack Kee has an official mooncake range with red bean and walnuts, lotus with yolk, red dates, nut versions, rabbit cakes and piggy cakes. Its factory collection is by appointment. We could not confirm a current public price list or a pickup address on the maker's own site. Ask for those details before making a trip. This is a confirmed product lead with incomplete buying details, checked September 10.

T&T is a practical lead for imported brands and smaller packs. Use its official store finder to contact the College and Spadina branch before going. Claims about individual cakes at College Street and savoury Shanghai-style cakes at Warden still need a current stock check. We have not confirmed a 2026 shelf price or same-day stock for either. Confidence in those specific items is low until the store confirms them.

Saint Germain is confirmed as the maker of the 2026 Fête Chinoise cakes. Its separate Ontario retail mooncake range and prices were not confirmed from its current public catalogue during this check. Do not use a British Columbia price as a Toronto quote.

Fresh Teochew-style flaky mooncakes with yam paste are another useful request. As of September 10, we have not verified a Toronto maker selling that exact fresh product this season. Confidence is low until a bakery confirms its filling, baking date and pickup. An imported boxed cake is not a confirmed substitute.

Other names worth checking include Savorology, Supreme Taste, Aromaz, Red Sail Boat and Que Ling. A reported reopening of Chinese Bakery on Dundas, near Dim Sum King, also needs direct confirmation before it becomes a reliable pickup plan. Current mooncake stock, maker details and prices remain unconfirmed. These are leads, not extra ranked recommendations. We have not mapped uncertain pickup details as if they were verified destinations.

The photo here shows Bake Code's confirmed ube cake. It is not a photo of any unconfirmed product above.

Frequently asked questions

When is Mid-Autumn Festival in Toronto in 2026?

Mid-Autumn Festival falls on Friday, September 25, 2026. A local celebration may take place on a different day. Check the date of the specific event and the collection date of your order.

Where can I buy just one mooncake in Toronto?

Dieu Ky's current website lists single-piece prices at its Passmore Avenue location in Scarborough. Confirm the price and available flavours before travelling. Kwan also lists individual cakes, but its pickup is in Markham.

What is the cheapest small box in this comparison?

Bake Code's listed two-piece box is $18 before applicable charges. That is the lowest confirmed box total in our main comparison, not a claim that it is the cheapest mooncake anywhere in Toronto. Its listed 2026 pickup starts September 25.

Are Daan Go mooncakes still $40?

The live pages checked September 10 show $45 for the traditional and snow-skin four-piece sets. The snow-skin cart also showed a $45 subtotal. The current $5 early offer is listed through September 14, so check the live product page when ordering.

Are mooncakes vegan or gluten-free?

Some may be, but you cannot tell from the name or shape. Fillings and crusts can contain egg, dairy, wheat, gelatin, meat, nuts or seeds. Check the full recipe and shared-equipment information for the specific product.

Do mooncakes need to go in the fridge or freezer?

It depends on the product. Daan Go's snow-skin set requires frozen storage, while baked products have their own instructions. Follow the maker and package, including the rules after opening.

Should I buy a gift box if I have never tried mooncakes?

Start with a single cake or a small pair unless the packaging is part of the gift. Share small wedges and learn which filling you like. A large box is a bigger spend and gives you more food to store.

Will mooncakes be cheaper after the festival?

Some stores may mark down remaining stock, but no specific 2026 sale is confirmed here. Your preferred cake may sell out first. Wait only if you are flexible about the brand, flavour and date.

For a simple outing, collect one small box and plan somewhere comfortable to share it. Our rainy-day Toronto guide has indoor plans. If collection takes you across the region, check GO day-trip planning and TTC fare capping before adding extra travel to a small purchase.
