South Asian Clothing and Jewellery in Toronto: Start in Scarborough

Start at Majestic City if you want to compare South Asian clothing and jewellery in one stop. Its mix of textile and accessory shops makes more sense than driving across the GTA for a vague recommendation.

Asiyans is a useful alternative for family clothing. Aksyas is worth an enquiry if you need tailoring or rental options. Add GTA Square as a second comparison stop, but don't assume every item there costs less.

The main trap is buying an outfit before checking fit, alteration costs and returns. A low price is no bargain if you cannot wear it.

Research checked September 15 to 17, 2026. We have not personally tested each shop's service or inspected its current stock.

Bring a picture of the outfit, event or style you want. South Asian clothing is not one fixed look. A shop with strong silk-saree choices might not have the Pakistani suit, Bangladeshi style or bridal bangle set you came for.

Ask about the actual garment and material. National labels alone are a poor shopping plan.

Majestic City: our first stop for comparison shopping

Address: 2900 Markham Road, Scarborough

The mall's directory lists textile shops, fashion jewellery, precious-metal jewellery and tailoring. Examples include 6 Kumars Silk House, Nehara Fashion & Jewellery in F2, and SAS Jewellery & Workshop in A15.

That mix is useful when you want to compare an outfit with matching accessories. It also means you should ask what kind of jewellery you are pricing. Costume jewellery and precious-metal pieces are different purchases.

The mall posts hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday to Sunday. Confirm the individual shop's hours. A building being open does not guarantee every counter is staffed.

Our pick is based on the range of shops in one place. It is not a guarantee that every shop has the same prices, return terms or quality. Look at a few options before paying.

GTA Square: a useful second stop, not a guaranteed discount

Address: 5215 Finch Avenue East, near Middlefield Road

GTA Square lists clothing, textiles, jewellery and food among its services. Its site gives mall hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, with individual store hours varying.

There is a local claim that some shops here are cheaper because the mall gets less traffic than Majestic City. We could not verify either the price comparison or its cause. Confidence in that blanket claim is low as of September 15, 2026.

Use the mall to get a second quote on a similar item. Compare the fabric, lining, embroidery, included pieces and alteration price. Two outfits in the same colour are not necessarily equivalent.

Choose GTA Square when you have time to compare. Don't cross the city expecting an automatic discount.

Asiyans: a family-clothing stop at Markham and Lawrence

Address: 3601 Lawrence Avenue East, Scarborough

Asiyans' company profile identifies the Lawrence Avenue location and lists sarees, bridal and groom's clothing, men's and children's wear, gifts and jewellery. We could not establish reliable current online stock or prices. Contact the Lawrence Avenue shop about the garment and size you need.

This is a sensible stop if several people need outfits. It is also repeatedly mentioned by shoppers looking for formal clothing and alterations.

The current availability of in-house alterations, plus-size stock and particular staff languages was not fully confirmed from the operator's pages. Those are useful leads, not promises. Ask before travelling if any is essential.

We would use Asiyans for a fitting and a clear total quote. Don't pay for an outfit on the assurance that an unspecified alteration will somehow make it fit.

Aksyas: ask here about rentals and tailoring

Scarborough: 1139 Morningside Avenue, Unit 30
Mississauga: 1450-C Dundas Street East, Unit C

Aksyas lists sarees, lehengas, kurtas, children's clothing, dance attire and imitation jewellery. It also advertises tailoring, wedding orders and rental services.

That makes it a stronger rental lead than an anonymous offer to lend an outfit. But its site does not settle the price, available sizes or which garments can be rented at each branch.

Ask for the rental period, deposit, cleaning charge, damage rules and late fee. Confirm whether fitting or alterations are allowed. For a one-off event, compare that total with buying something you will wear again.

The Scarborough number is 647-350-5540. Make the enquiry before building the trip around a rental.

Plan a Scarborough route before adding the rest of the GTA

For a visitor driving in from Montreal, these Scarborough stops form a more focused plan than mixing them with Milton, Brampton and Mississauga in one day. Pick two main stops and one backup. Adjust their order to your arrival point and traffic.

If you are taking transit, use the exact shop address in your trip planner. These are separate shopping areas, not one walkable strip. We would not promise a quick transfer between all four.

Check step-free entrances, fitting-room space and seating directly if they affect your visit. The source pages did not provide enough detail to rate every location for access.

You can also build in a meal. Majestic City's dining directory is a practical place to check options before leaving the mall. Keep the shopping appointment first if a tailor is expecting you.

Gerrard East is the better alternative for a separate city trip

Gerrard India Bazaar is another useful area, especially if you are staying closer to downtown. The BIA lists Chandan Fashion at 1439 Gerrard Street East, with bridal, groom's, occasion and casual clothing.

Treat bridal boutiques as a different category from a quick bangle or everyday-clothing stop. Show your budget and event details at the start. Ask whether an appointment is needed for a full bridal consultation.

Nucreation's online catalogue also helps you see the range of garment types and prices before shopping. Some sarees include unstitched blouse fabric, not a finished blouse. That distinction matters when comparing a price.

Nucreation’s published return policy says in-store purchases are final, with no exchanges or refunds. Its online policy allows most new, unopened items to be returned within 30 days of delivery. Do not apply that online window to a purchase in the shop. Check before paying or arranging alterations.

Choose Gerrard for a focused city shopping trip. Add it to the Scarborough route only if a specific shop has the item you need.

Check the whole outfit, not just the fabric

For a lehenga, ask whether the price includes the skirt, blouse and dupatta, the long scarf worn with many outfits. Try the pieces together.

Sit down, raise your arms and walk. Check that seams lie properly and that decoration does not scratch where it touches your skin. Look for loose stones, pulled threads, uneven hems and a zip that strains.

Ask which fabric and lining you are buying. A seller's use of the word silk should lead to a question about the actual fibre, not an assumption. Have important material claims written on the receipt.

For bangles, try the opening size rather than judging only by your wrist. For earrings, check the weight, fastening and stated material. Bring a swatch or a clear photo of the outfit to compare the colour.

No guide can promise you will never get poor service. Comparing like-for-like items and writing down the agreed work gives you a better basis for a decision than a general claim that one neighbourhood is cheap.

Plus-size outfits and alterations: get specific before paying

Ask which sizes are physically in stock. If a shop says an outfit can be let out, have the person doing the work examine it before you pay. A salesperson's hopeful answer is not a fitting plan.

Get the work, price, first fitting and final collection date in writing. Ask what happens if the agreed fit cannot be achieved. Don't assume custom or altered clothing has the same return terms as an untouched item.

A saree can offer more flexibility than a fitted dress, but calling it universally one-size-fits-all is too simple. You still need enough fabric for your chosen drape and a properly fitting blouse. Some styles also need a suitable underskirt or other support.

Borrowing a friend's saree can work even when their blouse does not fit you. You can use a separate top that suits the event and drape. Check the full outfit with someone who knows the style, and practise wearing it before the day.

You do not need to speak Hindi, Punjabi or Tamil to ask for a clear quote. Bring reference photos and written measurements. A friend can help with a second opinion, but language should not replace checking fit and terms.

Renting, borrowing and second-hand options

Ask the hosts what is expected before buying two outfits for separate events. Tell the shop whether you are attending a ceremony, reception or another function. An outfit suitable for everyday use may not match the requested dress code.

Borrowing can be the cheapest route if you can fit the complete outfit without changing someone else's garment. Agree on cleaning and return arrangements. Don't alter a borrowed blouse without the owner's consent.

Thrift stores are another lead, but stock and sizing are unpredictable. Value Village was mentioned by shoppers; we have not verified a reliable South Asian selection at a particular branch. Use it when you have time to browse, not as your only plan days before an event. Our Toronto Value Village price comparison can help with the wider value question.

You may already own suitable formal clothing. Check with the hosts rather than assuming you must buy a new cultural outfit to be welcome. Our Toronto wedding-guest dress guide covers other outfit options.

Useful leads that need a closer check

Checked September 15, 2026. These are not all confirmed shopping stops or guaranteed deals.

Lead What to know before using it
Sapphire Hut Multiple current listings point to 269 Queen Street East, Unit 7, Brampton. We could not verify the claimed Scarborough branch through the operator. Confidence in that Scarborough location is low. Confirm the branch directly before travelling.
Bombay Trendz Its own site confirms 801 Matheson Boulevard West, Mississauga. Posted hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Monday closed. A separate west-GTA option, not a nearby Scarborough stop.
Meera's Plus Size Store Online option with international shipping. Its FAQ excludes international and customized orders from returns and exchanges. A poor first choice if you are unsure of fit or working to a tight deadline.
Cbazaar Its Canadian site offers clothing made to your measurements. Check the chosen garment’s measurements, included pieces, delivery estimate and custom-order return terms. We have not verified the final cost for a particular shopper.
Hatke The name alone did not identify the intended retailer reliably. Hatke Bride and Hatkay are separate sites. Do not assume either is the shop someone meant.
The Saree Room An active online option for separates and sarees. Its return limits matter if you plan to alter a blouse or order during a sale. See below.
Bargaining below the tag price Some shoppers suggest it. No universal discount policy was verified. You can ask politely about the final price or a package, but accept a fixed-price answer.
Shopping in Milton or Brampton by national style Too broad to promise a successful trip. Confirm an actual shop and garment first.

For Sapphire Hut, this current listing is the basis for the Brampton address, not operator confirmation of a Scarborough location.

Meera’s FAQ also separates dispatch, when an order leaves the seller, from delivery to your door. It describes normal dispatch in seven to eight working days, followed by international shipping of seven to 15 days. Its “24 Hours Shipping” wording concerns dispatch, not next-day delivery to Toronto. Get an arrival estimate before ordering for an event.

The older claims about universally fair prices, staff helpfulness or one mall having less traffic remain customer impressions. They do not establish today's experience at every shop.

The Saree Room: read the return conditions before changing a blouse

A gold blouse and champagne skirt from The Saree Room
The Saree Room’s separates. Altering a blouse can remove its return eligibility. Photo: The Saree Room. Image source.

Its return policy, checked September 17, allows eligible requests within 15 days of fulfilment, not 15 days after an event. Ask the shop which date it counts as fulfilment. Do not assume the return window starts when the parcel arrives. Returns go through its online portal and are accepted by mail.

Items must be unworn, unwashed, unsoiled, undamaged and have their tags attached. Removing stitches to size up a blouse counts as an alteration and makes it ineligible. Sale-section items, jewellery, clutches, the Volume Underskirt and other marked final-sale goods are excluded.

A refund to the original payment method has a return-label fee. Eligible store-credit returns avoid that fee. Purchases using a sitewide promotion code can be limited to exchange or store credit, and the sale’s own terms can override the general policy. Shipping, duties and package-protection charges are excluded.

The shop allows one return request per order, and exchanged items become final sale. Check fit and every item together before submitting a return or changing a seam.

Use a fitting timeline for weddings and formal events

We would allow six to eight weeks when you need alterations, matching pieces or an online order. That leaves time for a second fitting and a replacement if the colour or size is wrong. A simple ready-made outfit can need less time, but do not rely on same-week tailoring without confirmation.

At the first fitting What to bring or check
Blouse or top Bra, jewellery and the range of arm movement you need
Lehenga or saree Event shoes and the intended waist position
Menswear Shoes, shirt, undershirt and room to sit comfortably
Child's outfit Growth room, closures and anything itchy or heavy

Photograph the agreed fit and write down every alteration. Ask whether the shop or an outside tailor is responsible, what happens if the work is late and whether altered items can be returned.

Check the outfit in daylight before choosing jewellery or a second garment. Bring a fabric swatch or clear photo when shopping at another store. Start at Majestic City for comparison, then use GTA Square or Gerrard East only when the first trip has not solved the outfit.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I go for bangles and matching jewellery?

Start at a mall with several accessory shops, such as Majestic City. Bring the outfit or a colour reference, and try the fit. Confirm whether it is costume jewellery, made mainly for its look, or a precious metal such as gold or silver. The difference matters when comparing prices.

Is South Asian clothing the same across countries?

No. Styles overlap, but garments, fabrics and event customs vary across communities and families. Avoid blanket claims about what women from one country do or do not wear. Ask for the item you want.

Can I rent an outfit in Scarborough?

Aksyas advertises rentals, so it is a useful first enquiry. Availability, sizes and branch-specific terms still need confirmation. Get the complete cost before choosing rental over purchase.

Can I buy a saree without ordering a custom blouse?

Possibly. Ask whether a ready-made blouse or a suitable top you already own works with the saree and event. Check the drape, support and fit together rather than buying the cloth alone.

Which shop is cheapest?

We did not verify a consistent cheapest shop. Compare the same type of garment with the same included pieces and alterations. A lower tag price can become the higher total.

Should I buy online for a wedding next month?

Only if you have checked measurements, delivery timing and the policy for Canadian returns. Allow time for a fitting after arrival. If those details are uncertain, an in-person purchase is the stronger choice.

Choose your first stop by what you need to try on. Buy only when the outfit, full price and finish date are clear.
