What’s Open and Closed in Toronto on Thanksgiving 2026

For Thanksgiving Monday shopping, choose the Eaton Centre. For a proper indoor outing, choose the ROM. For a free trip, choose Riverdale Farm. All three have published hours that cover the holiday.

Skip Yorkdale, Fairview, Sherway Gardens and Scarborough Town Centre on Monday. They list closures. The biggest trap is leaving groceries, a prescription or a library visit until the holiday without checking the exact location.

Thanksgiving is Monday, October 12, 2026. Toronto does not shut down for the whole long weekend. Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11 have different schedules, and some places close on more than one day.

Checked September 10, 2026. This guide separates confirmed October 12 hours, standing holiday policies and regular schedules that still need a Thanksgiving update. Those are not the same level of certainty.

The quick answer for Monday, October 12

Start with this table, then use the sections below for addresses, exceptions and the official pages. The table describes Monday unless it says otherwise.

Do not build a tight day around three different parts of the GTA. A downtown museum and dinner is easier than a museum, an outlet mall and a farm, especially with holiday transit.

Which malls are open on Thanksgiving?

The Eaton Centre is the best choice for visitors staying downtown. You can reach it by subway, and its October 12 opening is confirmed. Driving to a suburban mall only because it is open adds travel without improving the holiday.

Queen and Dundas stations serve the Eaton Centre. Check the TTC trip planner and elevator notices for the entrance you need. An open mall does not guarantee that every restaurant, bank counter, salon or shop inside keeps the full mall hours.

For Pacific Mall, Milliken GO Station is nearby. Check the actual holiday train and return departure before choosing it over a local shopping trip. Do not assume every GO route runs just because GO as a system is operating.

What about Vaughan Mills, Dufferin Mall and the other malls?

We have not verified October 12, 2026 hours for Vaughan Mills, Dufferin Mall, Bayview Village, Hillcrest, Promenade or Toronto Premium Outlets. Some appeared as open in older holiday lists, while others appeared as closed. That is a lead, not a booking plan for this year.

Vaughan Mills’ visitor page says it uses special holiday hours, but the accessible schedule checked here showed ordinary late-August and early-September dates. It did not settle Thanksgiving. Dufferin Mall’s hours page did not provide a usable 2026 Thanksgiving listing in our check.

Confidence: unconfirmed as of September 10. A dated mall announcement or confirmation from guest services would settle it. Until then, choose one of the confirmed options above if a wasted trip would be a problem.

Why can one mall open while another closes?

Toronto’s holiday-shopping rules still list Thanksgiving as a day when most retail businesses must close. There are exceptions for certain businesses and tourist areas.

The rules changed for Family Day and Victoria Day in 2026. That change does not make Thanksgiving an ordinary shopping day. Also, permission to open does not require a business to open.

For a shopper, the useful answer is the exact store’s posted holiday schedule. The bylaw explains the difference between malls. It does not replace the hours table.

Where can you buy groceries or a missing ingredient?

Buy the main meal by Sunday. Use a holiday shop for a missing item, not for an unplanned full turkey dinner. A small store can be open without stocking the size of bird, fresh herb or dietary substitute you need.

Rabba advertises 24-hour operation. Start with its location finder for a nearby branch. That is a better first lead for basics than travelling to an unverified supermarket across the city. Prepared-food counters and product availability can still differ.

The following are useful grocery leads from older holiday coverage. Their current addresses are checked, but their October 12, 2026 hours are not confirmed here.

The same caution applies to old lists naming Loblaws at 60 Carlton, Metro at 444 Yonge, Whole Foods at 87 Avenue, H Mart, T&T, Summerhill Market and Kitchen Table. We have not confirmed this year’s Thanksgiving hours for those leads. Some historic lists also name Pusateri’s locations that should not be treated as current without a fresh check.

Ask the store three things: “Are you open on Monday, October 12? What time does this location close? Do you have the item I need?” If you need a deli, bakery or pharmacy counter inside, ask about that counter separately.

Do not use a delivery app’s open label as proof that the store will accept an order at your planned time. A pickup slot, prepared holiday meal and walk-in grocery shop can have different cutoffs.

St. Lawrence Market is a weekend stop, not a Monday backup

St. Lawrence Market’s official hours page confirms the Monday, October 12 closure. Do not head to 93 Front Street East expecting the South Market food stalls to rescue a last-minute holiday menu.

Visit earlier in the weekend and check the page for the specific market you want. The North Market and South Market have different activities and schedules. “The market is open” is too vague to plan a particular purchase.

Choose the market for a planned food-shopping visit. Skip it as a Monday lunch plan. You can still walk through the surrounding neighbourhood, but a walk past a closed building is a different outing.

LCBO, Beer Store and convenience-store alcohol

The LCBO’s published holiday policy lists Thanksgiving as a closure day. Buy what you want before Monday, and check Sunday hours for your specific LCBO.

The Beer Store closed all stores for Thanksgiving in 2025. We have not found a confirmed 2026 Thanksgiving announcement. Treat closure as a sensible planning expectation, with medium confidence based on last year, rather than a newly verified chain-wide notice. Its official news page or your branch can confirm this year’s decision.

Licensed convenience stores are a separate option. Ontario allows licensed stores to sell specified products, including beer, wine, cider and ready-to-drink drinks. A shop’s licence, stock and holiday opening still matter. Use Ontario’s alcohol retail information to find the right kind of seller.

Alcohol sales in these stores are limited to 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., even if the shop itself stays open all night. The AGCO’s retailer guidance explains that limit.

Buy a specific bottle ahead. A late-open convenience store is useful for a flexible purchase, but it is a poor substitute for checking the exact product you promised to bring.

Pharmacies: check the counter, not just the shop

There is no useful city-wide answer that says all Shoppers Drug Mart or Rexall locations open for the same hours. Some locations operate late. Others sit inside buildings or malls that close on the holiday.

Use the Rexall locator for separate store and pharmacy details. Two downtown locations worth contacting are 250 University Avenue, Unit 120, at 416-591-6493, and 777 Bay Street, Unit C216, pharmacy 416-977-6899. Both list regular daily hours to 11:59 p.m. This is not confirmation of October 12 hours.

For the east end, the official Shoppers Drug Mart Woodbine and O’Connor page is the right branch to check. We have not independently confirmed its holiday or overnight counter hours. Do not rely on an older “24-hour pharmacies” list.

If you need a refill, arrange it before the long weekend when possible. For a Monday visit, confirm the pharmacy counter is open, the service you need is available, and the prescription or item is ready before travelling.

A Canada Post counter inside a pharmacy has its own hours. An open shop is not a promise that the pharmacist and postal counter are both available.

ROM: the strongest confirmed indoor Monday outing

The ROM’s October 2026 calendar confirms 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on October 10, 11 and 12. The Thanksgiving opening is an exception to its usual autumn Monday closures.

The address is 100 Queen’s Park. Use the Weston Entrance on Queen’s Park while the Bloor entrance is closed for construction. The visitor information page explains access and the current entrance arrangements.

This is our first choice for a rainy Monday because it gives you a substantial indoor visit without depending on an unannounced holiday exception. Pick the galleries you care about and book the dated admission you need. Prices vary with the ticket and visit date, so do not borrow a price from an old holiday roundup.

For step-free subway planning, the ROM points visitors toward the Bedford Road elevator at St. George Station. Check its status before leaving.

Choose the ROM for a full museum visit. Choose Riverdale Farm instead if keeping the outing free matters more than staying indoors. Our rainy-day Toronto guide has more indoor ideas, but each still needs a holiday-hours check.

Toronto Zoo: open late enough for a proper day out

The Toronto Zoo’s published season schedule runs through Monday, October 12 with weekend and holiday hours of 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., last admission 5 p.m. The shorter 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. schedule starts October 13.

The address is 2000 Meadowvale Road. Parking is listed at $20, on top of admission. Dated ticket prices vary. Add transport and food before comparing the total with a downtown attraction.

A late closing time is not a reason to arrive at 4:30 p.m. The zoo involves a lot of walking, and the last-entry time leaves little room for a broad visit. Choose it when you can give it several hours and the weather suits an outdoor day.

Splash Island is closed for the season. Do not promise children a summer water-play visit because an old photograph shows it.

Choose the zoo for a planned animal-focused day. Skip it for a short rainy afternoon when the ROM would be easier.

Hockey Hall of Fame: the easier downtown sports stop

The Hockey Hall of Fame, 30 Yonge Street at Brookfield Place, lists 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily in fall. Its published exception list does not close it for Thanksgiving.

That is a current seasonal schedule covering the date, rather than a separate Thanksgiving announcement. Recheck before booking if your whole day depends on it.

Choose it for the hockey collections and interactive games. Its downtown location works well with a meal near Union Station. It is a more manageable short outing than travelling to the zoo and trying to rush the grounds.

Book it if hockey is the reason for the visit. Do not spend the admission price only because it appears on an open-attractions list. The ROM is the broader choice for a group with mixed interests.

Free outdoor choices: Riverdale Farm and the botanical garden

Riverdale Farm, 201 Winchester Street, lists 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day, including public holidays. Admission is free. The barns, animals and Cabbagetown setting make it a useful small outing.

This is our best free Monday pick. Plan a short farm visit, then extend it with a neighbourhood walk if everyone still has energy. Do not treat it as a petting zoo or bring animal feed. Pets and bicycles are not allowed inside under the farm’s rules.

A farm opening does not guarantee that nearby cafés, shops or park washrooms keep normal hours. Bring water and a snack if you want to avoid building the day around a food stop.

Toronto Botanical Garden, 777 Lawrence Avenue East, lists free garden access from dawn to dusk every day. It is the quieter choice for plants, paths and an unhurried walk beside Edwards Gardens.

Parking is $4 an hour, maximum $16 per day. Indoor visitor-centre services have separate hours, and we have not confirmed their holiday schedule. Ravine connections also need their own access check.

Choose the farm for animals and a short neighbourhood outing. Choose the garden for a quieter walk. Neither needs perfect peak foliage to justify the visit.

Attractions where old holiday lists cause trouble

Ontario Science Centre: Harbourfront, with Mondays closed

The current Ontario Science Centre experience is at 235 Queens Quay West, inside Harbourfront Centre. Do not go to the old Don Mills address because a 2023 Thanksgiving article lists it.

The published September 12 to December 18, 2026 schedule is Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Mondays. We have not verified a Thanksgiving exception. Choose Saturday or Sunday and book the proper timed ticket.

Admission is listed at $15 including tax, with children two and under free. The summer Canada Strong discount ended September 7. It does not establish free Thanksgiving admission.

Choose the current Harbourfront experience for a weekend family visit. Do not put it in a confirmed Monday itinerary.

AGO: weekend hours are clear; a Monday exception is not

The AGO, 317 Dundas Street West, lists 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with Mondays normally closed. We have not confirmed a special October 12 opening.

Use Saturday or Sunday for the gallery unless its calendar changes. The AGO Bistro is also listed as temporarily closed, so an old recommendation to make it your lunch stop needs another plan.

For an indoor Monday reservation you can settle now, choose the ROM.

CN Tower and aquarium: distinguish ordinary hours from October 12

The CN Tower’s current hours page lists year-round opening and current hours of 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., last admission 9 p.m. The address is 290 Bremner Boulevard.

A specific October 12 exception is not listed in the checked page. Look at the dated booking and notices before buying. A published September partial closure does not mean the same closure applies in October.

Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, 288 Bremner Boulevard, displayed current hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. when checked. That is not a verified October 12 closing time.

These are useful indoor leads near each other. Book them for their actual exhibits or views, not because last year’s article gives a convenient hour. For the tower, poor visibility can also make an expensive visit disappointing even when the doors are open.

Fall events and closures still needing a final check

PumpkinFest Toronto has confirmed October 9 to 12, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at 35 Carl Hall Road, Downsview Park. Use the organizer’s current Toronto information for admission and the attractions included in each ticket.

Choose it for a family festival with rides and activities. It is a weaker fit for an adult seeking a quiet walk or for someone who only wants to buy one pumpkin. Those visitors should start with a free garden or an ordinary grocery purchase.

Evergreen Brick Works is a different case. Current flooding-related closure notices were still in place when checked on September 10. Its usual market and trail reputation does not confirm an October 12 reopening. Check Evergreen’s official site before building a visit around it.

Other useful leads remain unresolved here:

• Pingle’s Harvest Festival: the 2026 festival page is current, but an exact Thanksgiving Monday visit needs the date-specific ticket and hours. The farm is in Hampton, not Toronto. Treat it as a planned day trip.
• Canada’s Wonderland: check the official park site for the actual daytime and Halloween Haunt date. Old reports that it closed on Thanksgiving Monday do not confirm this year. Daytime admission and Haunt are separate decisions.
• Other museums and downtown sites: October 12 hours are not verified here for the Aga Khan Museum, Gardiner Museum, Bata Shoe Museum, MOCA, Stackt or PocketPlanet, formerly Little Canada. Old Ontario Place access advice also needs a current construction check. These remain leads to confirm, not settled Monday plans.
• Films: choose a confirmed screening time. An open cinema does not mean the film you remember from last Thanksgiving is returning.
• Blue Jays postseason games or public watch parties: no 2026 Thanksgiving game, opponent, home venue or city watch party is promised here. Team qualification and scheduling must come first.

Confidence as of September 10: PumpkinFest’s dates are confirmed. Evergreen’s October reopening and the other date-specific plans above are unconfirmed. A current organizer calendar, reopening notice or bookable October 12 slot would change that status.

Restaurants: an open kitchen is not always a turkey dinner

Many restaurants can operate during the holiday, but that does not confirm their dining room hours or a special meal. A normal menu, holiday menu, takeout preorder and walk-in table are four different things.

REIGN at Fairmont Royal York, 100 Front Street West, has confirmed Thanksgiving features for October 10, 11 and 12. The turkey main is $51 before tax and any tip. It is a useful option for one person because you do not need to buy a whole family package.

Choose REIGN if you want a booked traditional meal near Union Station. Ask about service time, dietary needs and the menu available with your reservation. A hotel’s front door being open all day does not mean every dish is served all day.

For other meals, choose a neighbourhood and a budget first, then confirm a table. Our guide to dining alone in Toronto can help if you are eating by yourself. A regular meal you want is better than a costly holiday package you do not.

Do not use a 2022 Sneaky Dee’s turkey special or an old social post about a free drink as a current offer. No 2026 version of those offers is confirmed here.

TTC and GO run different holiday schedules

The TTC holiday schedule lists Sunday service on Monday, October 12, beginning at 6 a.m. That does not mean every vehicle leaves every stop at 6. Check your route’s first and last trips.

The GO holiday schedule lists Saturday service for October 12, 2026. Older Thanksgiving lists that say GO runs Sunday service are wrong for this date.

For either system, check construction diversions and the return journey before leaving. A line or bus that normally serves weekday commuters may have a different weekend service pattern. Use the TTC’s current accessibility notices if an elevator is essential.

Is the $10 GO holiday pass useful?

GO’s $10 one-day weekend and holiday pass covers unlimited GO train and bus travel for one activated day. It is a useful starting point for comparing the cost of a regional day trip.

The pass is bought online for a smartphone. It is valid for seven days after purchase, and GO instructs riders to activate it at least five minutes before boarding. It is not a PRESTO product.

It does not include TTC or other local transit through One Fare or Co-Fare, and it does not include UP Express or WEGO. Add those fares before deciding it is cheaper. Do not buy it weeks ahead for Thanksgiving, and do not confuse it with an old $15 whole-weekend offer.

Use it for a GO-heavy day when the total works out. Compare the full trip, including local connections, instead of assuming every $10 pass is the cheapest choice.

Libraries, banks, mail and City services

Toronto Public Library’s holiday schedule closes branches for Thanksgiving. Toronto Reference Library’s current listing specifically confirms closures on Sunday, October 11 and Monday, October 12. Do not move your Monday reading plan to Sunday without checking your branch.

There is another catch at the Reference Library, 789 Yonge Street. Its skylight renovation notice limits access through the end of October. Floors 3 to 5 are closed during this phase. Seating and computer access are reduced, and the piano practice rooms are unavailable.

The renovation schedule lists Saturday hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., subject to current closures. Check what you need before travelling. Our Toronto reading-spots guide can help with another venue, but its holiday schedule also needs checking.

A regular recreation schedule is weak evidence for a holiday. Older City Thanksgiving notices reported facility closures, so our planning expectation is closure, with medium confidence until the 2026 notice or the facility confirms it. Choose a confirmed attraction if you need a dependable indoor plan now.

Garbage and recycling: not every pickup moves one day

The City’s 2026 holiday-impact table makes three separate Thanksgiving rules clear:

• Daytime residential curbside collection: no holiday impact.
• Nighttime residential and commercial curbside service, including premium organics: no holiday impact.
• Multi-residential front-end collection: no Monday, October 12 collection. Monday service moves to Tuesday, October 13. Tuesday service moves to Wednesday, October 14. The rest of that week is unchanged.

All City transfer stations and drop-off depots are closed to the public on October 12. Do not load a car for a holiday depot run.

Use your collection schedule or building management to identify which rule applies. Toronto’s residential recycling arrangements changed in 2026, so use the current City guidance to reach the right recycling operator rather than an old paper calendar.

Do not shift a regular curbside pickup yourself just because Monday is a holiday. The correct answer depends on the service, not the colour of your bin.

Plan the weekend in an order that avoids closed doors

Saturday, October 10: errands first, then an outing

Use Saturday for market purchases, branch-dependent errands and any attraction that normally closes Monday. Collect preordered food at the time on your confirmation. A holiday dinner package can require pickup before the day you intend to eat it.

If you want the AGO or the Science Centre at Harbourfront, Saturday is a better starting point than hoping for a Monday exception. Allow travel time between the errand and the booked admission. Do not make a food pickup depend on squeezing in one more exhibit.

Sunday, October 11: finish the shopping and confirm Monday

Buy the remaining meal items and any specific alcohol purchase. Check the Sunday closing time for the actual shop. Call restaurants before the dinner rush if you still need to settle a Monday reservation.

Toronto Reference Library is closed that Sunday. Choose another plan rather than assuming Sunday is the workaround for Monday’s closure.

Monday, October 12: choose one main reason to leave home

For a free day, choose Riverdale Farm and a short Cabbagetown walk. For rain, choose the ROM. For shopping, choose the Eaton Centre. For a sports-focused visit, choose the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Keep a meal or a second nearby stop optional. The strongest holiday plan is one with confirmed doors, a realistic journey home and enough flexibility to leave when you have had enough.
