Scotiabank Arena Bag Check: Rules, Cost and Catching a Bus After a Concert

Scotiabank Arena's official page lists $25 for bag check. Its posted dimensions and more recent reports of arena signage do not agree, so confirm the rule for your specific event. If you are catching an intercity bus after a concert, the problem is not just the walk to the terminal. You also have to leave your seat, get out through the crowd and collect your bag.

Our pick is to travel light and choose a departure with a generous buffer. If you need a backpack, plan storage and collection before buying the bus ticket. Skip a tight, non-flexible connection unless you are willing to leave the show early.

The arena's bag policy still displays a small-bag limit of 16.5 cm by 11.5 cm, or 6.5 by 4.5 inches. That page carries an October 2022 update date.

More recent visitor reports describe signage with different dimensions. We had not reconciled that discrepancy with the arena when checking on September 25, 2026. Treat the newer dimensions as unconfirmed, not permission to bring a backpack. Ask Fan Services which rule applies to your event, and save the answer.

The policy allows consideration of larger required bags, including medical needs, through X-ray screening. It lists X-ray screening at Gates 1, 3 and 5. Contact Fan Services before the event if you need an exception. Do not assume a bag that was accepted at another venue will pass here.

The rule can change for a particular event. Check the event page and any arrival email as well as the general policy. The artist's tour can have its own restrictions.

Measure the bag itself. A soft backpack does not become an approved small bag just because it is half empty. Packing one day bag inside another also leaves you with the same storage problem when you arrive.

Where is bag check, and how long does collection take?

Bag check is in the Galleria across from Gate 1. The arena FAQ says capacity is limited and service is first come, first served. A ticket to the concert is not a reserved storage space.

No official collection-time guarantee was available when we checked. Treat any claim that retrieval always takes five minutes as one person's experience. It is not a sound basis for an expensive connection.

Before handing over a bag, ask where to collect it and when the desk closes. Keep the claim ticket secure and separate from the checked bag. Take what you need during the show, including medication, your phone and your travel ticket.

If your group has several bags, agree on who is collecting them and where everyone will meet. A bag queue is a bad place to discover that your friend's phone has died or that the claim ticket is in someone else's pocket.

Build the bus connection from the departure time backwards

Union Station Bus Terminal is at 81 Bay Street, in CIBC Square. It is not the old outdoor terminal site, and a rail-platform sign does not necessarily point you towards your bus.

Check the current GO Transit Union Station information, then your bus operator's boarding instructions. The operator's arrival deadline matters more than the scheduled departure printed in large type.

Here is a planning example, not a prediction of concert or queue times. Suppose your bus leaves at 11:30 p.m. and your operator asks you to arrive 15 minutes early. You need to be at the correct boarding point by 11:15 p.m. A show ending at 11 p.m. leaves just 15 minutes for everything before that point. We would not book that connection with a checked backpack.

Work backwards through each step:

  1. The time you must be at the boarding point.
  2. The walk from the bag desk to the terminal and the right boarding area.
  3. Bag collection, with room for a queue.
  4. Leaving your seat and the arena.
  5. A clear time to leave the concert if it runs late.

Visit the terminal before the show if you have time. Find the public entrance, read the signs and note how departures are displayed. Do not rely on an old floor plan or on a claim that you can reach every destination through one convenient arena exit.

Is luggage storage elsewhere a better choice?

It can be, but the closing time is the deciding factor. A storage shop that closes before the encore is not a useful alternative. Nor is a cheap location that sends you in the opposite direction from the bus.

Check the exact collection address, latest pickup time, whether advance booking is needed, and the charge for your bag size. Ask what happens if your event runs late. Save the booking details offline.

A hotel holding luggage for its guests may be the simplest option when the hotel is on your way. Confirm the arrangement with reception. Do not assume a hotel stores luggage for people who are not staying there.

For a day trip, travelling with only an approved small bag is often worth more than finding a slightly cheaper storage service. If you have a laptop, spare clothes and school supplies, accept that you are planning a luggage trip as well as a concert.

Build a backup that you can actually use. That might mean a later departure, a flexible ticket or leaving before the final song. Our late-night TTC guide covers local transport after the subway closes. It does not replace checking an intercity bus timetable.

Bag rules and the posted storage charge checked September 24, 2026. Collection times remain unconfirmed.

If you have time before the show, our Financial District itinerary keeps the day nearby. For a meal without coordinating a group, see our solo dining guide. Finish those stops before collecting anything you cannot bring into the arena.

Compare all four storage plans before choosing the bus

Plan Best use Main benefit Main problem
Travel with only an approved small bag A simple day trip No collection queue or storage detour You cannot carry a normal day's backpack
Arena bag check A bag you cannot leave elsewhere Collection stays at the venue Limited capacity, a posted $25 charge and an uncertain queue
Your own hotel An overnight stay or checkout day Reception can explain the arrangement directly Collection may take you away from the terminal
A booked storage partner A day trip with luggage You can choose an address and collection window The individual shop's hours matter more than the platform's headline

Our first choice is the small-bag plan when it is realistic. For an overnight guest, a hotel on the route can be better than paying the arena. For a visitor with no hotel, compare a named storage partner with the arena before committing to either.

Union Station does not solve this with public lockers

The Union Station FAQ says there are no public lockers or baggage-storage facilities. It directs VIA Rail passengers to VIA Rail for its own luggage arrangements. That is not a general storage service for anyone holding a bus or concert ticket.

Do not arrive at Union expecting to find a row of coin lockers. This is one of the easiest mistakes to avoid. A station can have shops, trains and a large concourse without offering luggage storage.

How to compare an outside storage booking

BagsAway's Union Station page is one place to start. Services like this use individual storage partners. A listing described as “near Union” is not necessarily inside Union, and a broad 24-hour claim does not prove every partner is open all night.

Before paying, identify the exact address, walking direction and latest collection time. Check whether the quoted price is per bag, per day or for another period. Read the charge for a large suitcase and the late-pickup terms.

Save the confirmation and the partner's contact details. If collection ends at 11 p.m., it is a poor choice for a show that might continue past that time. A small saving is not worth abandoning the encore or losing access to your luggage.

A limited Scotiabank benefit is not a concert discount

Scotia Perks describes complimentary bag check for the first 50 eligible clients at Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors regular-season home games. The listed process uses the digital pass in the Scotiabank app, at the Galleria bag check.

That is a narrow benefit. It is not a promise of free storage at concerts, preseason games or every other arena event. Even an eligible client needs a backup because the benefit is limited. Compare the conditions with your actual ticket before counting the saving.

Three concert-night plans, with honest trade-offs

The local visitor with a backpack

The best solution is leaving the backpack at home or at a confirmed workplace storage spot. If that would mean a long return trip, compare the cost of arena storage with the time you lose.

Do not bring a laptop merely because you normally carry it. Decide what you truly need during the event. A smaller bag reduces both the entry problem and the post-show collection problem.

The student catching the last practical bus

Start with the bus operator's actual boarding deadline. A ticket to a later departure is useful only if that service runs on your date and reaches your destination. A late GO bus, a private coach and an overnight route are different products.

Choose a firm time to leave your seat if the show is still running. Agree on it with your friends before the main act. If missing the last song would ruin the night, buy a more flexible travel plan rather than hoping the timing works.

A rideshare quote from downtown to another city is not a dependable low-cost backup. Prices and driver availability can change after a sold-out event. Know the realistic alternative before choosing a tight connection.

The visitor staying overnight

Ask your hotel about luggage before checkout. Confirm whether it can hold the bags until after the show and how collection works late at night. A verbal “we have storage” during the afternoon is not a clear answer about midnight access.

A hotel north or west of the arena can be convenient for the night but awkward before a bus from 81 Bay Street. Plot the actual sequence: arena, hotel, terminal. Compare that route with collecting near the arena.

What to check again on the event day

Open the event's arrival email and the official bag page. Confirm your storage opening hours and bus departure. Charge your phone and save tickets offline.

After entry, identify a meeting point outside the crowd. Before the show finishes, make sure the person with the bag claim ticket is still with you. Small practical choices matter more than shaving a minute off the walk on a map.

Our verdict remains firm: do not book an 11:30 p.m. departure on the assumption that an 11 p.m. finish leaves plenty of time. Without a confirmed end time and a workable bag plan, that is a gamble.

Frequently asked questions

How much is bag check at Scotiabank Arena?

The arena currently lists a $25 charge for items that exceed its bag limit. Check your event's information before travelling because policies can change.

Can I bring a clear backpack?

Do not assume that clear material makes a backpack acceptable. Scotiabank Arena's normal rule is based on very small bag dimensions, not a broad clear-bag allowance.

Is bag check guaranteed if I arrive early?

No. The arena describes limited capacity on a first-come, first-served basis. Arriving early gives you more time to respond if storage is unavailable.

Can I catch an 11:30 p.m. bus after a concert?

Possibly, but there is no reliable yes without the actual show ending time, boarding deadline and bag arrangement. With checked luggage and an 11 p.m. finish, we would choose a later departure.

Does Union Station have public luggage lockers?

No. Union Station's official FAQ says it has no public lockers or baggage storage. VIA Rail arrangements are separate and should be checked directly if you are travelling with VIA.

What should I do if I need a larger medical bag?

Contact the arena's Fan Services before the event and describe the requirement. The general policy provides for possible entry after X-ray screening, but the event team should confirm the process for your visit.
