Ballroom Dance Lessons in Toronto: Studios, Prices and Trials

For a named ballroom class, start with Joy of Dance. For a $1 first try at social partner dancing, add Tempo Dance Collective. For a free private ballroom consultation, add Ballroom Expressions. Beach Ballroom is our alternative when you want a studio with social nights too.

If you already dance but are new to ballroom, book an assessment or a suitable foundation class. Knowing choreography doesn't automatically teach leading, following or moving safely around other couples. The main deal-breaker is a package you can't use before it expires.

Prices and policies were checked October 11 and 12, 2026. Our choices compare published teaching formats and commitments, not lessons we claim to have taken.

The shortlist

Studio Best fit Published cost or commitment Main catch
Joy of Dance, 95 Danforth Avenue Trying a class near Broadview Group jump-in listed at $20.13 plus HST; first private lesson $45 single or $60 couple Upper-floor studio; package expiry and refund rules
Beach Ballroom, 1501 Queen Street East Adult learning with social practice $99 consultation; group passes available Its advertised $109 beginner series is salsa or bachata, not a universal ballroom price
Toronto Dance Spot, 95 Lavinia Avenue or 360 Windermere Avenue A structured west-end group $31 plus HST drop-in; $115 plus HST for five weeks per person Contact first, especially if joining without a partner
Tempo Dance Collective, 1610A Bloor Street West A first social partner-dance class $1 first class; $25 single class Check the exact ballroom timetable; auto-renew memberships bill again
Ballroom Expressions, 1161 Weston Road Private ballroom or wedding preparation Free 30-minute consultation and lesson Register first; get the later package price in writing
Baila Boogaloo, 35 Golden Avenue or 39 Glen Cameron Road Private Latin-dance coaching $125 for one hour; package hours from $95 each The lower hourly rate requires a larger purchase; Thornhill is outside Toronto
West-Way Club, 291 Evans Avenue A social ballroom club in Etobicoke Check the dated class or social fee No universal current drop-in price verified
DanceLifeSocials, Bathurst or Ellesmere A repeat local group Advertised seven-day trial Check which sessions are included
Dance With Me Toronto, in Markham Private coaching or a longer group series $95 private lesson including tax; group series listed at $250 for ten classes It's in Markham, despite the name

Always confirm the exact class, date and final price. A studio's headline rate may not apply to every programme.

Joy of Dance: our first choice for trying ballroom without a large package

Dancers in a class photograph shared by Joy of Dance
Dancers in a class photograph shared by Joy of Dance. Photo: Joy of Dance. Joy of Dance image source.

Joy of Dance's ballroom page lists beginner and more advanced formats. Its published group jump-in price is $20.13 plus HST. Class packs are also available.

The studio is at 95 Danforth Avenue, on the third and fourth floors. That is convenient for the Broadview area, but ask about access before paying if stairs or upper-floor access affect you.

The page distinguishes International Ballroom and Latin. Ballroom includes dances such as waltz, tango, foxtrot and quickstep. Latin follows a different group of dances. Choose the class you actually mean.

Some classes need a foundation or ask new students to join in the first or second week of the month. Don't drop into an intermediate class because you have experience in a different dance style.

For a clearer starting point, the private-lesson page lists a first lesson at $45 for one person or $60 for a couple. Confirm any tax and booking terms.

Choose a first lesson or one group class before a pack. Skip a larger purchase until you know the class level and schedule fit.

Beach Ballroom: best when you want a social practice setting too

A class photograph shared by Beach Ballroom
A class photograph shared by Beach Ballroom. Check the actual beginner course before booking. Photo: Beach Ballroom. Beach Ballroom image source.

Beach Ballroom is at 1501 Queen Street East. Its adult teaching formats include ballroom, Latin, private guidance and social nights.

The site says beginners can attend without a partner and that partners rotate in group classes. It also advertises a $99 consultation and group passes.

A useful distinction: the $109 four-week beginner course on the homepage is for salsa or bachata. Don't advertise it as the price of every ballroom course.

The published weekly Latin and country social nights have a $10 drop-in price, free for members. These are practice and social formats, not replacements for a foundation lesson.

The benefit is the link between lessons and a place to use them. The drawback is that your preferred ballroom dance may not be the focus of that week's social.

Choose Beach Ballroom if you want adult classes and a social setting. Ask for the class schedule first. Don't buy a consultation or pass simply because it sounds cheaper than a private package elsewhere.

Toronto Dance Spot: a structured west-end option

People taking a partner-dance class in Toronto Dance Spot photography
A group class shown by Toronto Dance Spot. Photo: Toronto Dance Spot. Toronto Dance Spot image source.

Toronto Dance Spot's current site lists group teaching at Swansea Town Hall, 95 Lavinia Avenue, and St. Olave's Anglican Church, 360 Windermere Avenue. Check the location printed beside your class. Its pricing page lists $31 plus HST for a drop-in and $115 plus HST per person for five weeks.

It describes beginner and more experienced classes and asks first-time visitors to contact the studio before attending. Its enrollment wording also warns that solo applicants can face a delay while the studio balances classes.

That is a real practical limit. “Register solo” isn't a promise that you can join any session immediately.

The site has specific tax wording for couples. Get the actual invoice rather than treating that as a general tax rule for dance lessons.

Choose Toronto Dance Spot when the west-end location and structured series fit. For an immediate solo start, confirm a place before travelling.

Dance With Me Toronto: useful pricing, but it's a Markham trip

A private lesson shown by Dance With Me Toronto
A private lesson shown by Dance With Me Toronto. Confirm its current Markham studio address. Photo: Dance With Me Toronto. Dance With Me Toronto image source.

Dance With Me Toronto's rate page lists private lessons at $95 including tax, for a person or couple. Group classes are sold in ten-week sessions at $25 per class, or $250 for the series.

It also describes some $30 cash drop-ins, semi-private lessons for small groups and a free trial. Confirm which format is currently available.

The site says it operates in Markham around Woodbine and Steeles and records an April 2026 move. Use the current contact page rather than an old address.

The benefit is a clear comparison between private and group formats. The drawback is travel for Toronto readers, especially when repeated lessons mean repeated trips.

Choose it if the location and teaching plan work for you. Skip the long journey for a cheap trial alone.

An experienced dancer still needs ballroom foundations

A solo dancer can already have musicality, coordination and good practice habits. Those are useful. Partner dancing adds another set of skills.

Ask for a class that teaches the hold, weight changes, leading and following. Tell the teacher which styles you've done and what you want to learn.

Don't request an advanced class only because you dislike being called a beginner. A short foundation stage can prevent awkward habits that take longer to undo.

A private assessment is most useful when you have a specific goal: social foxtrot, a wedding dance, competition or a move from another partner style. A group is the better first choice when you want broad practice at a lower cost.

Choose the format that solves the goal. Don't pay for competition coaching if you only want to feel comfortable at a social dance.

Ballroom, salsa and swing are not interchangeable

A general dance school can be excellent while not teaching the style you mean. Read the timetable.

Another dance option is Bees' Knees. Bees' Knees Dance specializes in Lindy Hop, a swing dance. That is a useful alternative if swing is what attracts you, but it isn't a direct substitute for a ballroom syllabus.

Older suggestions include Arthur Murray and wedding-dance coaching. We haven't verified every current branch's price or contract. As of October 11, confidence in exact package claims is low until the studio supplies a written offer.

Try one appropriate class before turning a general recommendation into a large purchase.

What lessons cost once you compare the same commitment

A five-visit group-class comparison

Option Listed commitment Cost per attended visit before adjustments What can spoil the value
Joy of Dance single group class $20.13 plus HST $20.13 plus HST Exact class eligibility and level
Joy of Dance five-class pack $95 plus HST $19 plus HST Expiry and attending every purchased class
Toronto Dance Spot five-week course $115 plus HST per person $23 plus HST Missing a week or not securing solo enrollment
Dance With Me ten-week group course $250 $25 per scheduled class A longer commitment and repeated Markham travel

These are price divisions, not a ranking of teaching quality. Class duration, syllabus and tax wording can differ. For Dance With Me, confirm the group invoice's tax treatment rather than carrying over the private lesson's tax-inclusive wording.

At Joy, five single visits total $100.65 before tax. The $95 pack saves $5.65 if you use every class. If you use only four, the effective pack cost rises to $23.75 per attended visit. A small headline saving is not worth buying classes you can't attend.

The larger Joy packs list $180 for ten classes and $340 for twenty, with a six-month expiry and no refund under the published terms. Twenty classes means attending roughly three or four a month to use the pack in that window. Buy that only after the timetable works in practice.

A private lesson means a different purchase

Joy's first private lesson is listed at $45 solo or $60 for a couple. Dance With Me lists $95 including tax for an individual or couple. Split between two people, the listed couple amounts are $30 or $47.50 each, before any tax adjustment needed at Joy.

That does not prove Joy's regular private teaching is cheaper. The first rate is an introductory offer. The second is a published private rate. Ask about lesson length and what the next booking costs before comparing the packages.

Joy also lists four private lessons at $395 with a 60-day expiry. That averages $98.75 per lesson before any tax specified in the actual quote. Missing the expiry is a much bigger loss than the five-group-class saving above.

Choose a private lesson when you need feedback on a particular dance, a wedding routine or your starting level. Choose a group for repeated practice at a lower entry cost. A private lesson isn't automatically a better first purchase for someone who mainly wants a social hobby.

Arthur Murray adds several locations, but get a real price quote

Arthur Murray Toronto lists studios at 1300 Bay Street, suite 300; 3054 Bloor Street West; and 500 Sheppard Avenue East, unit 104. Its network also includes Mississauga, Richmond Hill and Woodbridge locations.

This is a useful location alternative for readers who cannot make the Danforth, Beach or Windermere choices work. The homepage does not supply a comparable current package price. A free or reduced introductory offer cannot tell you the cost of the full programme.

Ask for the number and length of private lessons, group access, practice-party access, total tax-inclusive price, expiry and cancellation terms. Ask whether the teacher stays the same. Get the quote before signing a larger package.

Choose a nearby branch for an assessment if its format suits you. Keep it out of the “cheapest” ranking until it supplies a price that can be compared.

A closed studio should not stay on your shortlist

Access Ballroom's own site says it officially closed in September 2026. An October class on an old event platform is therefore not reliable proof that the studio still operates.

This is exactly why a longer list of dance classes can be less useful than a shorter current one. Skip the old Access listings. If a new operator or venue restarts a programme, use its current address, teacher and booking information before paying.

What you should be able to assess in the first class

For a new ballroom dancer, watch whether the teacher explains weight changes and timing before adding a long sequence. Notice whether both partners get instructions. If everyone copies steps but you never learn how to communicate a change of direction, the class may not serve your social-dancing goal.

For a wedding couple, ask whether the teacher can work with your actual song and available floor space. A routine that needs a large studio floor can be awkward in a small reception room. Bring the song and the venue's usable dimensions.

For an experienced solo dancer, ask for partner-dance fundamentals rather than repeating basic musicality. For a returning ballroom dancer, an assessment can prevent paying for weeks at the wrong level. A useful teacher should be able to explain why the suggested class fits your goal.

Our purchase order

Start with one suitable class or one assessment. Then try the travel at the real class time. Then buy the smallest package that brings a meaningful saving. Add social practice once you have enough basics to use it.

For most uncertain beginners, Joy's single-class route remains our first inquiry. Beach is the stronger social-practice inquiry. Dance Spot fits a west-end series when enrollment is confirmed. Dance With Me fits someone for whom Markham is convenient. Location is part of the value, since a lesson only works if you attend it.

More dance studios that the first shortlist missed

Tempo Dance Collective: a $1 first social dance class

Social dancers in a photograph shared by Tempo Dance Collective
Social dancers in a photograph shared by Tempo Dance Collective. Photo: Tempo Dance Collective. Tempo Dance Collective image source.

Tempo Dance Collective is at 1610A Bloor Street West. This is the studio in the linked Maps listing. It teaches several partner styles, including salsa, bachata, kizomba and Brazilian zouk. Its site also names ballroom.

The current pricing page lists a $1 first class for first-time visitors and a $25 single class. A four-class pack is $90 with a six-month expiry. A ten-class pack is $220 with a twelve-month expiry.

That works out to $22.50 or $22 per class if you use the whole pack. The $1 visit is the best added way to test this studio before a commitment. Choose it for exploring social partner dance. If you specifically want waltz, foxtrot or quickstep, check the actual ballroom timetable before booking. Salsa availability doesn't establish a weekly ballroom class.

Its first-time one-month membership is $99. The regular single month is $180. A $165 auto-renew membership bills again automatically. Don't compare a one-time introductory month with an ongoing rate without naming the difference. The site also advertises a $49, ten-class challenge with a refund only after completing ten classes in fourteen days. It is not an unconditional free pass.

Ballroom Expressions: a free consultation in the west end

A group photograph shared by Ballroom Expressions
A group photograph shared by Ballroom Expressions. Photo: Ballroom Expressions. Ballroom Expressions image source.

Ballroom Expressions is at 1161 Weston Road. It offers International and American ballroom and Latin, wedding dance and competition coaching.

Its booking information lists a free 30-minute consultation and dance lesson. Registration is required. This is a useful alternative to paying for a consultation before you know how the teacher works.

Choose it when you mean ballroom specifically, or want a wedding or private-lesson plan. Ask for the written price and expiry of the suggested package after the consultation. A free introduction does not make the later package the best value.

Baila Boogaloo: clear private-hour prices at two locations

Dancers in a private-lesson photograph shared by Baila Boogaloo
Dancers in a private-lesson photograph shared by Baila Boogaloo. Photo: Baila Boogaloo. Baila Boogaloo image source.

Baila Boogaloo lists a West End studio at 35 Golden Avenue and a Thornhill studio at 39 Glen Cameron Road. Its private coaching includes salsa, bachata, wedding preparation and other dance styles.

The published private rate is $125 for one hour, $105 per hour for two to five hours, or $95 per hour for six or more hours. Six hours at the lowest rate still mean $570 in lesson charges before any tax or extras. The hourly saving isn't a saving if you don't use the hours.

Choose a single private session when you need help with a specific dance or first dance. Don't mistake these private-hour rates for the price of a group course. The Thornhill location is a separate GTA trip, not a second Toronto subway-area branch.

The West-Way Club: a dedicated social-dance option in Etobicoke

Dancers at The West-Way Club in official club photography

The West-Way Club is at 291 Evans Avenue. Its programme includes social, ballroom, Latin and line-dance classes across levels.

Choose it when the social club and dance floor matter as much as the lesson. Read the dated calendar for the class or social you want. We haven't verified one current universal drop-in fee, so compare the specific event rather than an assumed club-wide price.

DanceLifeSocials: another north-Toronto and Scarborough route

Dancers in a class photograph shared by DanceLifeSocials
Dancers in a class photograph shared by DanceLifeSocials. Photo: DanceLifeSocials. DanceLifeSocials image source.

DanceLifeSocials lists its main studio at 3768 Bathurst Street, Units 216 and 218. It also lists Sunday sessions at 1220 Ellesmere Road, Unit 9, in Scarborough. Its programme includes Latin and ballroom social dancing, line dance and fitness classes.

Its advertised seven-day free trial is a way to check the format before choosing a membership. Confirm which sessions the trial covers. Choose it when a repeat local group is more useful than a one-off lesson downtown.

Our revised choice is simple: try Tempo's $1 offer for social partner dancing, Joy of Dance for a clearly named ballroom class, or Ballroom Expressions for a private ballroom consultation. Pick the dance first, then the studio.

More ballroom choices across Toronto

You shouldn't have to travel across the city for every lesson. A nearby studio that you attend every week is usually a better purchase than a distant bargain that you keep missing. These additions extend the guide through North York, Etobicoke, Yorkville and Scarborough.

The table distinguishes a ballroom lesson from a related Latin or social class. A studio offering salsa doesn't prove it has a beginner waltz group on the night you want.

The Ballroom Club: a free private introduction near Dufferin and Finch

Ballroom dancers in The Ballroom Club’s current public feed

The Ballroom Club advertises a complimentary 30-minute private lesson and explicitly welcomes learners without a partner. It also has group learning and social parties advertised every other Friday at 8:30 p.m., with the warning that dates can vary.

Choose the free introduction if you want private coaching before buying a package. Ask whether the next step is a group class, a private lesson or both, and get the total cost. A free first visit doesn't tell you what a month of dancing costs.

This is our strongest added North York starting point for someone who wants actual ballroom and doesn't have a partner. Book before travelling to 4590 Dufferin Street.

Shall We Dance: a northeast Toronto option with ballroom named on the schedule

Dancers in Shall We Dance’s official class photograph
A group of dancers in Shall We Dance’s official programme photograph. Photo: Shall We Dance. Shall We Dance image source.

Shall We Dance's adult page lists ballroom on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Latin at 8:15 p.m. It advertises a free trial class and private lessons by appointment from Monday to Saturday.

The address is 511 McNicoll Avenue, Suite 205. That's a useful northeast option rather than another recommendation that quietly sends everyone downtown. Confirm the current Thursday level, solo enrolment and trial eligibility before treating a posted timetable as your reservation.

Choose it when McNicoll is a manageable weekly trip and the current ballroom group matches your level. Don't buy a longer pass before trying the class you will actually attend.

Star Dance Centre: the clearest added private-price comparison near the subway

Star Dance Centre’s studio in an archive official image
Star Dance Centre’s studio, from the operator’s archive photograph. Photo: Star Dance Centre. Star Dance Centre image source.

Star Dance Centre is on the third floor at 4750 Yonge Street, Unit 326, with direct building access from Sheppard-Yonge Station. The lift is a practical advantage over an upper-floor studio reached only by stairs, but confirm any access need with staff.

Its FAQ lists a private tryout at $29 for one person or $45 for a couple. A regular one-to-one private lesson is $120 for 45 minutes. Those are different purchases from a group-class pass.

The group price page lists a $25 single class and a new-student three-class pass at $45, expiring in one month. That lower price works only when you attend all three eligible classes. Confirm that your chosen ballroom style is actually offered in the group timetable.

Choose a private tryout for a specific ballroom goal. Use the group pass only after checking the class. A wide dance menu doesn't guarantee a weekly beginner foxtrot.

Dancingland: priced private lessons on Chesswood Drive

An instructor teaching a private lesson at Dancingland
An instructor teaching a private lesson at Dancingland Photo: Dancingland. Dancingland image source.

Dancingland advertises a free 45-minute introductory lesson. Its published tuition is $75 for one 45-minute lesson, $360 for five and $700 for ten. The five-lesson rate works out to $72 each; ten works out to $70 each. Ask whether tax is additional.

The detailed contact page specifies Tuesday and Thursday lessons at Rhythm Dance Studio, 3711 Chesswood Drive, second floor. An older footer gives 3771. Use the detailed contact page and confirm the appointment’s room at 416-358-5595.

Older Scarborough listings should not override the current site's North York location. Its other listed locations in Concord and Mount Albert are outside Toronto. Choose the free introduction once the address is confirmed. Skip buying ten lessons just to save $5 per visit before you know the teaching fits.

Arthur Murray: three distinct Toronto locations

The franchise's official location directory lists Etobicoke at 3054 Bloor Street West, North York at 500 Sheppard Avenue East, Suite 104, and Yorkville at 1300 Bay Street, Suite 300. These are three places to compare, not three versions of one citywide price.

Ask each branch for lesson length, partner arrangements, group-class access, practice parties, expiry and cancellation terms. A package that combines private teaching and practice needs a different comparison from one drop-in group.

For Etobicoke, the local dance list includes waltz, tango, foxtrot, Latin and swing. For North York, use the actual Sheppard branch details. For Yorkville, use the official studio listing.

Choose the branch you can attend consistently after getting its written price. Be careful with neighbourhood search pages. A page titled “Scarborough” is not proof of a separate Scarborough studio when the official address is Bay Street.

Platinum: a North York studio, with a location-specific timetable

A couple in Platinum Dance Centre’s programme photograph
Platinum Dance Centre’s official programme photograph. Photo: Platinum Dance Centre. Platinum Dance Centre image source.

Platinum Dance Centre lists its North York location at 41 Scarsdale Road, Unit 8, inside Top School. It offers private instruction, ballroom and Latin, wedding coaching, and specialist exhibition dance.

Its current homepage places a Thursday salsa class in North York, while Monday ballroom/Latin groups are labelled Barrie. Keep that distinction. A studio's ability to teach waltz privately doesn't establish a Toronto group at the posted Barrie time.

Choose Platinum for a private ballroom enquiry or the verified North York class that matches your goal. Confirm a local ballroom group before making it your weekly plan.

Macao Club: a low published course price in Scarborough, for the right level

Ballroom dancers in the class image published by Macao Club
Ballroom dancers in the class image published by Macao Club Photo: Macao Club. Macao Club image source.

Macao Club's class page lists intermediate ballroom on Saturdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m., including waltz, rumba and cha-cha. The displayed fee is $50 for ten classes, with a maximum of ten participants.

That is $5 per scheduled class if you attend all ten. It is not a drop-in price, and it is not a confirmed beginner course. The page explicitly marks its Tai Chi enrolment as members only, but doesn't spell out all ballroom eligibility terms. Ask about membership, partner arrangements, the next start date and seats.

Choose it for an intermediate Scarborough enquiry with a small published group size. A first-time learner should ask for an appropriate introductory course instead of entering an intermediate class only because the price is low.

Public programmes: another route before a private package

Search Toronto recreation programmes and TDSB Learn4Life for ballroom by location, age and term. Public courses can be useful, but a 2020 or 2023 brochure doesn't establish a 2026 seat or fee.

For Scarborough, ask Scarborough Village Recreation Centre at 3600 Kingston Road about its current ballroom programme and age rules. A current third-party timetable shows a 60-plus option, but we haven't verified that session against a current City booking record. Treat it as an enquiry, not a confirmed free Tuesday class.

The next step is simple: pick one nearby private introduction and one group with a named ballroom style. Try both if your budget allows. Buy the repeating class you can reach and enjoy, not the longest package someone can sell you.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a partner for ballroom lessons?

Not at every studio. Beach Ballroom explicitly welcomes solo learners. Other schools may balance enrollment or have class-specific rules, so confirm your session.

Should an experienced dancer take a beginner class?

If ballroom is new to you, a foundation class or assessment is sensible. Partner connection and floor movement differ from solo choreography.

What is the cheapest way to try ballroom?

Ballroom Expressions lists a free 30-minute consultation and dance lesson with registration. Tempo lists a $1 first social partner-dance class, but check the exact ballroom timetable. Compare the class you want, including tax and travel, before buying a pack.

Is salsa the same as ballroom?

No. A studio can teach both, but the programme and technique differ. Choose the dance style on the actual timetable.

Are class packs good value?

Only if the classes fit your schedule and you use them before expiry. Read refund, make-up and cancellation rules before paying.

Is Dance With Me Toronto downtown?

No. Its current rate page places it in Markham around Woodbine and Steeles. Check the updated address before travelling.

For other social activities, see our adult hobbies guide and making friends as a commuter student guide. Book one suitable lesson first. Let the teacher help you choose the next step.
